House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J. Maas
5.0
This book combined a few of my favorite elements; fantasy, romance, and a bit of murder mystery. I like the world building and character development. The only part I think is a bit weird is the addition of cellphones into the world. I'm not used to seeing the real modern world mixed into the fantasy world. Its not bad or interrupting to the story just is different to me. Also, if I have to deal with the phrase "alpha-hole" for this whole series, I will DNF
Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing by Matthew Perry
4.0
It was really nice to hear this audiobook in Matthew's own voice. Hearing an addict's tale from their perspective is always interesting. I've only been on the other end of it, trying to care for and love the addict hoping they will get clean and take care of themselves. It is sad to hear that he was doing well on his sobriety, but the cause of death was something that he said in this book was a treatment he didn't think would work well for him and his depression. If there is an afterlife, I hope he's doing well
One by One by Freida McFadden

I knew the ending before it came to be. I could tell who the anonymous chapters were the perspective of. I knew which team was doing everything. This book was just too predictable for me to enjoy. Very repetitive. Lots of unnecessary details as well. It was also frustrating to hear the group just going in circles for days without realizing it sooner considering at least one of the members had been a boy scout.
None of This Is True by Lisa Jewell

I love this type of book. Characters whose actions are questionable. The whole time you're asking yourself, "WTF" and "Why are they doing that?" Even at the very end I think I know who I would rather believe, but it all tracks the other way.
Hot Vampire Next Door: Season Two by Nikki St. Crowe

I am not a fan of the writing style of this series. It may have ended nicely but I didn't give it a chance. I sadly DNF'd, my apologies to Ms. St. Crowe
Eragon by Christopher Paolini

I remember when this book came out when I was young but at the time I wasn't ready to take on the daunting task of such a large book. I'm glad I waited until now. I can appreciate the storytelling more as an adult. I also chose to listen to the audiobook form which is another help. I wouldn't have known how many of the words or names are pronounced. I know that many people were let down by the film adaptation, and I can't wait to join their ranks! All in all, it is a solid fantasy story with dragons, elves, and magic. Add in that the author was in his teens when he wrote it, its incredible! There are plenty of authors now that can't put together a story with good writing *cough cough* collen hoover *cough cough*
Do Not Disturb by Freida McFadden

I really liked this one! This book broke McFaddens formula. No Louboutins. No black coffee snob. And a twist that wasn't predictable. I'm quite fond of Greta.
Dead Until Dark by Charlaine Harris

I have a few of of the books of this series at home but I listened to the audiobook for this one. I watched True Blood religiously while it was airing. The book made me miss the show and I may need to rewatch it. The show follows the book fairly well. Although it seems Tara doesn't play as major of a role, and we miss Bubba entirely in the show.
Finding Me by Viola Davis
5.0
I love listening to memoirs read by the authors. Getting to hear Viola herself tell me about how she grew up and how hard she worked to become an actor is inspiring. I love that she grew from her traumas and tried to break cycles and take care of her family when she had the means. It was also nice to get an inside look into the "Hollywood" lifestyle for upcoming actors. The blatant colorism and racism is sometimes easily overlooked, but hearing that people wouldn't have considered Viola beautiful or leading lady material confuses me. I see so much beauty and strength in that woman. She deserves her happy life and her accolades
Assistant to the Villain by Hannah Nicole Maehrer

I loved this book a lot. It has dragons, magic, betrayal, a sweet frog, lore, and the budding romance that I can only assume is going to take off in the sequel!
