Friends to lovers, great side characters, and funny. A good romance with a relatable FMC who can’t exactly open up emotionally but finds a reason why she should. There are dual POVs and each character has a unique voice and personality, and their chemistry together is well written. I wouldn’t say there is spice, more of a light peppering of, well, pepper—but the romance is, as always, beautifully done.

While this is definitely different from Poston’s other books, the title promises exactly what it gives—a love story. There’s that bit of magic the author puts into her stories, but also the character-driven plot. The FMC is quirky and relatable, and is given a chance of a lifetime.

Great side characters, a lovely (too good to be true) setting in a small town, and a grumpy MMC.

It’s one of those lovely romances that are the right amount of cheesy and adorable, and just what I needed to balance out other high-fantasy reads. While there is a romance between the FMC and MMC, I loved the FMC’s inner emotional journey the most.

Another banger from the Rook & Rose series. More insight into the characters, more about the magic system, and a perfectly crafted romance subplot. There are a few scenes that had my palms sweating and heart racing, and scenes where I giggled like a madwoman. This series has everything you’d want in a fantasy book—mystery, action, tension, morally grey characters, an intricate magic system, and phenomenal world building.

This is a wild story. Unhinged, unstable, and unfiltered. There are times I literally said aloud, what the f*ck, but I couldn’t put it down. The main character is desperate to be loved and to love people the way she wasn’t when she was younger, and is willing to go to great lengths to attain this love. She’s functional, but we’re taken through her mental instability through her never-resting mind. It makes you question the reality of those around you and what exactly is going on in their heads.

The imagery and the way the author shows the MCs mental instability and obsessions is truly  intriguing. The language and voice are so well done, and the themes and overall plot are evenly balanced.

Check your trigger warnings: mostly mental illness references and portrayals, but some mention of child neglect and rape (one scene where it’s on page and a couple references of memories).

A romance with a bit of a mystery, some decent banter, dual POV, and set in the Highlands in a castle. The pacing was a bit off for me, but it didn’t take anyway from the overall plot. I really enjoyed the curse avenue while also staying in the real world and how strong-willed the FMC was.

And that Buffy reference—best episode ever! There is no other right answer😂

Did not finish book. Stopped at 17%.
Characters fell flat—couldn’t make it through their dialogue or inner monologue without thinking this isn’t how people think/talk. I tried to give it a bit before DNFing, but I just didn’t see myself connecting with them/the story.

I loved the portrayal of the protagonists in this one, how they worked together, how they moved in each other’s worlds. There is tension, it’s emotional, and—this is only slightly spoilery—the growth of the FMC doesn’t end with her apologizing for her lifestyle or choices, but growing with AND because of them.

A cute, tension-filled romance with dual-POV. The characters are relatable and the pacing is perfectly executed through split timelines and altering perspectives. I loved the back and forth between them—both in their writing and how their scenes were depicted. The ending was worth the wait for a lot of the questions the reader doesn’t get right away.

I really, really loved the premise of this book. Rival-to-lovers, a 24-hour time frame with truly phenomenal pacing, and great characters. Even though it’s targeted towards young adults, and the characters read as upper YA, I didn’t think I was reading a book about teenagers. It’s a story of endings and beginnings, of what the future holds, of not being afraid to tell the world who you are. It was fun and adorable, and made me reminisce on how I asked myself a lot of the same questions the FMC does throughout the book. I did find myself wanting Neil’s POV, but the next book does that, so I look forward to it.
