I enjoyed this a lot more than the original book I felt. I had more political intrigue and less action, which I really appreciated. The complexity of the interaction between everyone was very interesting. Unfortunately the audiobook is harder to absorb, but I think I might listen to it a second time to try and get everything again.
Reading this again as an adult I'm really struck by how much I can relate to Kel. I related to her as a kid but as I have aged and dealt with imposter syndrome, struggling with being a leader, etc, I was just quite amazed.
The final battle felt almost like an afterthought. I think that was the whole point but some more suspense or higher stakes would have been good.
I love the animal friends helping out throughout the series. Just so good!
I don't have children of my own so this book may not have been especially aimed at me (my partner has children that I see about once a month). I think the "everyone is good inside" framing is really useful and helpful beyond interaction with children.
I found it interesting and informative, but the really emotional affect the reader used was off putting to me personally.
I read my school library's copy so many times as a teenager that I had to track down a copy of my own as an adult. It's surprising that it holds up so well. Just a lovely, wholesome story of a desert boy becoming friends with a spaceship.
Really enjoyed this. The description of the landscapes, dinosaurs, and scientists intersperse with the science itself making the tone vary in an excellent way. It was pitched at a good level for me as a dinosaur enthusiast, not too basic but also not a full blown textbook. What surprised me the most was how much I loved the chapter on T-Rex 🦖! I always felt having T-Rex as your favourite dinosaur was a bit 'basic', but it was an absolutely extraordinary animal and so precisely built for its niche.
As the title suggests, it describes the rise of the dinosaurs and their fall, as well as their jurassic heyday. I found the early dinosaur evolution chapter very interesting too! Just, all round, a really good informative pop sci book!
Really liked the submarine stories providing context for the tips. Wish there had been some more tips for lower level employees as it all seemed a bit more geared towards executives
Really appreciate how short and to the point it was. Had so many good tidbits about rejecting moral standards and focusing on functionality and practicality. A lot of it was very much in line with the things I've picked up having an adhd husband for 10 years and what will actually work well for him!
