Well shit!
I'm honestly not sure how to review this other than it was a slow start but it got epic and it got epic fast! I don't like Nassun, she's being manipulated  by everyone around her and still manages to hate her mother. I was hoping she would learn to understand her mother better as she got to know Schaffa despite him being a dif erent person than the one whom looked after Syneite. Whilst Damaya/Syneite/Essun just wants to make sure she is safe and alive. Do I understand corrdctly that the stone eaters *eat* the orogenes turning to stone with the use of magic? Thats what Lerna implies happened with Alabaster... Who has turned into a stone eater despite half of him mossing earlier... Was Antimony just storing his stone body parts ready for his death?

I'm not a fan of Lerna so much or most of the stills in Castrima, but as always it's a reflaction of racism in the real world... I was routing for Essun to find Nassun and save her, although she saved herself somewhat. I liked Hoa... From the more human child to regular stone eater... I hope we answers to that, why 10 years after she freed him? How did he become his version of a human child? I understand that he chose that form to forge a connection with Essun because he knew that was the way, how I'm not sure, but he knew somehow... I do like that Essun although freaked out by Hoa's transformation after he's ripped to piece, she knows he's still the same "person" and she tries to treat him the same until it no longer becomes thoight because she is comfortable with him.

I cannot wait to dive into the third book because i need answers 😖

This review is not spoiler free, I have blacked out major spoilers but small smoilers are still visible.

I absolutely loved this book! This was my second read of this book and having read my previous review for a different edition, it made a lot more sense to me from the start. I do wosh we'd gotten to know Syenite a little better as well as Essun before Uche.
The story was gripping and I didn't want to put it down but life had to come first.
It has been a few years since I read this book last and I didn't remember much about it at all or why I never continued with the series back then - thats why I read my previous review, not that it told me anything about why I never continued, it sounded like I wanted to.
I am very anxious to continue the series and see if our main character can find her husband and daughter, it is a worrying stoyline because I fear for Nassun. The best part of the three timelines was getting to know each version of the character, Damaya was a lonely child, but Syenite was a willfil adult, I don't remember if it specificied her age or Essuns, but Essun was entirely different to her previous identities.
Tonkee/Binof wasn't a shock but it was unexpected, she/they got an explanation in but I'm still curious how she deducted about the obelisks and tracking them.
Hoa was unknown, I did think Stone Eater but also was confused since he was eating and moved unlike the Stone Eaters. I am curious to know is 'he' is
the embodiment of the obelisk, because the end of the last chapter sure sounded like the obelisk was sentient and Hoa admitted to liking Essun and wanting her to like 'him'.
it is a conundrum I can't wait to figure out.
I am also very intrigued about Alabaster... He's turning to stone... How? Why? It is because he's using the obelisk power? Is Antimony the embodiment of a different obelisk? Can Essun use the obelisk power properly? Alabaster mentioned the moon... Is he implying that Essun can harness the obelisk power to connect to the moon and bring it down to earth to help destroy it?
so very many questions that I hope will at least be explored if not answered in the next book. I can't wait to see if Essun does what Alabaster asked of her, and what that will mean for our main character.

I enjoyed this quick read, to whet my tongue for the main series.

I could not get into this at all, it was jarring with the point of view, and neither Susan nor Hannah were intereting enough to keep my attention.

This was such an emotional ride! David had so much to deal with as a kid and the Steelheart came along, i never did figure out how Davids father had hurt Steelheart i figured it was something to do with orotection instincts and boy was I wrong. I also never realised about Prof. That seemed particularly out of pocket for me. I never liked Megan, I guess I know why now but I really liked the other Reckoners, Tia was very motherly and Abraham was like a big brother and Cody was the humourous little brother... I have no clue how old the guys are but it's clearl prof and Tia are older.
I did think whilst reading, how would I explain this story to someone if they adked and it dawned on me that it reminds me of the premise of the tv show The Boys... But like from the peoples side, kinda like The Rest of Us Just Live Here by Patrick Ness, like what happens if you're not the chosen one 👀.

I definitely enjoyed it but I did find it dragged a bit, but i think a lot of that was Davids monologuing and his mooning over Megan. I liked how he essentially stalked and forced the meeting with the Reckoners, it was fun. And with his research it was really well thought out despite his naïvety over what would happen afterwards.
I really liked that Prof was a good Epic, doing exactly what Davids father said, I wonder if Megan will do the same now that she's been reborn.

I'm not sure how I feel about continuing with the series, I guess I'll think about it later.

I enjoyed this one, i liked seeing more of the overall story ark, but i really enjoyed seeing Shay grow as a person after finding Dirge, not to mention Dirge's personal growth. I enjoyed seeing them bond before he shifts to human, it was bittersweet but also very cute. I really liked how protective Shay was of Dirge when he was a wolf but not overly impressed with how she acted when they got the shamans lands, conversely i was impressed that she stood her ground with him, even if she essentially immediately forgave him. I'm curious about Brand, is her her father? Or just a fae that knew what she was? So many unanswered questions but since I'm not a huge fan of Leigh I'm probably not going to continue the series .. but i may google the plot of the next books, I'm not sure yet

There is nothing redeeming about either of the main characters... There is nothing fun about it, it is boring and forced and just not for me sadly.
