“I loved and adored you, but I drained you like a thirsty man at a spring. I loved what you could give me - your admiration, your acceptance, your love, your forgiveness. I forgot to love you for yourself.”

I hate to say this but I loved this couple in Ian's book more than in theirs.

Not quite as good as the first book in the series, but damn! I am really enjoying this series. I definitely want to read the next three stores. What can I say? Mac was the reformed drunk who decides he wants his wife back and Isabella was the strong woman who decided their relationship on her terms - loved it. The author certainly has a knack for creating strong, interesting, and complex characters!

* Annotated book by The Book Refuge. *
* The Rake Meets The Bluestocking Readathon Read.*

Well I picked this book because it was annotated by Jenn and it was on my tbr since last year and with this Readathon it was the perfect change to finally read it.
In the first Chapter I realized this wasn't book 1 but I was invested already in the story so I read it basically in one sitting.

I loved the story that was being told for various reasons. It was interesting to me reading a story that started as insta-love (we don't see it happen on page), to marriage to then being separated from each other. Never read one quite like this but maybe I live under a rock. 😅
I like seeing that Isabella was doing her best to love Mac from afar but she wouldn't take him because he hurt her when she needed him the most plus he was an alcoholic.
Tbh I liked that the author doesn't tell on page how it was for Mac to detox however he does tell Isabella how it was on the hard days.
I liked that they both still loved each other but they never communicated their hurts and so it lead to some painful times however when this begins, Mac is willing and ready to get his wife back no matter what and so that's what he starts to do.

I loved that they adopted even when their relationship wasn't a sure thing yet. I loved that after their loss, they were willing to do that.

I loved the story. I felt for these two and I totally understood Isabella but I also wish she was on board a bit earlier on because it came across almost as if she wanted the spicy and good times but not to be married again.
Besides that I loved Mac. His charm was charming 😉.
Isabella was also the type that didn't keep quiet and I loved that about her.
I loved them together. I also loved that in the end Mac got rid of his "friends" and chose life and love.

Last but not least I loved reading what Jenn had to say about the story and it made me more excited to read about Ian next.

CW: miscarriage (not on page), alcoholism (mentioned).

4.5 stars (not the full five only because I liked book 1 better than book 2 - not because book 2 doesn't deserve the full five)

I thought I was done with historical romance long ago. I was never even a fan of the regency period romances. However, I can't figure out how to resist these Scotsmen in kilts. ;-) Jennifer Ashley does such a great job bringing her historical characters to life with modern voices. In spite of the setting, these are highly relate-able characters. It's easy to feel them and the issues they encounter.

I've been listening to the books on Audible and have to say that a big factor in my enjoyment of these books is the narrator, Angela Dawes. I love the accents she uses and the inflections are perfect.

I'm moving on to book 3.

Good lord! These two love birds are a hot mess when this book starts. But what's refreshing about Lady Isabella's Scandalous Marriage is we as the reader walk into the story after everything has fallen apart and both Isabella and Mac are older, a wee bit wiser, and know with all their hearts that they love each other. The question is can they make that love work?

Ms. Ashley does a fantastic job of pulling these two back together and bringing a freshness to a couple who have fallen in love, burned every bridge possible, and come back together as two individuals who could make it on their own, but want to face the world together.

Wonderful story telling is wonderful.

I LOVED Ian and Beth's story, and while this one was emotional and thrilling it just didn't quite have the same excitement for me as book one did. I loved bits and pieces of the book, but as a whole I didn't quite find it as romantic or even sad as I hoped it would be. From meeting these two in the last book you could see the drama coming and I just feel it needed a little something more. I don't like to compare books to others but I think when it comes to a series that's all interconnected you have to. It weaves a story that's made of a heap of stories and I just think while this was good (maybe I should even put it at 3.5 but it's written really well) it wasn't fantastic.

It focused more on the fake Mackenzie and that drama than the drama of their relationship. The bits where you saw how messed up they are were the best bits. Maybe I just didn't like the crazy man, and all the who is it where is he. Oh well.
