This was so cute!! An easy YA romance read but it heavily focused on self love and being true to yourself. An amazing message that warmed my heart.

Any book about self love is valuable and important. A teen girl discovering that she is worth more is something I will always get behind. I read this while in a bikini in Vegas. I say that- because while I was reading- I found myself getting more comfortable in my own skin. I recommend this book!

I haaaaaaate when characters lie about who they are just to date someone. Literally who does that. Then when Nala rejects Tye's thoughtful water bottle gift because he was under the impression she was an activist who cares about the environment, she acts like it's his fault he didn't get her a gift suited to her true personality?????????? In what world would these two actually date each other???????

Also the message at the end of the book didn't really come through for me. "Nala, you need to learn to love yourself." I never got the idea that Nala didn't love herself. She just "loved" Tye so much she justified lying to him so she could "get to know him." Yeah this book just fell flat all around

This is my first Renee Watson book. I liked the summer vibe and the New York setting, but toward the end it felt just a smidge too much like an after school special.

Love Is A Revolution follows the life of black girl named Nala who wants to make the most of her summer before going to her senior year. Living with her cousin, who’s an activist involved with Inspire Harlem, she tends to live in her shadow.

While her cousin volunteers in the program, Nala tags along and meets Tye, one of the other volunteers. She tries to impress him by lying about who she is. Meanwhile she tries to figure out: who is Nala really?

This heartwarming young adult book give insights in love, friendship, family relations and discovering who you really are.

Self-love is radical.
Love is a revolution.

This was a fantastic coming of age and romance book that I would certainly recommend reading. I’m around the same age as the characters where I’m also about to go into my senior year of high school so I really found points where I could relate to the characters. Adding onto that, this summer like the rest of the teen characters from this book I’m planning on working this either though the means of an actual job or volunteer work. I don’t just relate to the main character Nala just because of those two reasons but also because I can relate to her feelings, insecurities and just her character in general in different cases.

But back to the book, all in all if you wanna read this book I was recommended having tissues next to you because if you’re like me there will probably be moments where the waterworks will come. I mean that’s kinda what I get for reading yet another romance book this year but eh, I’d do it again. On the other hand I originally had my mind set on rating this book four stars but then I read a familiar quote from my favorite movie and couldn’t miss the opportunity because just seeing and reading it almost made me cry

P.S. Everyone deserves a Tye Brown ok this world :)

I really appreciated the themes of loving and being true to yourself as well as the back drop of youth activism, but I just felt like some of the characters and situations were a little forced and unoriginal.
