I enjoyed the first part of this book. Interesting read about the origin and demise of bees, and the effects on man. Unfortunately, the book lost momentum about 2/3s of the way through.

A bleak and chilling warning for the future interlaced with the personal tragedies of three individuals connected through the annals of time. I found this tale somewhat predictable in its twists and turns, though the endings for each of the three protagonists was something of a gut punch. While it has a strong beginning and end, The History of Bees somewhat loses its way in the middle.

Another book about bees, I know, I know. This one is told from three storylines: one set in 19th century England, one in modern day America and one in future China. The three storylines join together at the end but I kind of didn’t care, it just seemed joined for the sake of joining, more than adding to the storyline. To be honest, I only cared about the future China storyline, the other two were really boring. But it’s a good reminder of how catastrophic the world will be if the bees ever disappear, which is a message we must never forget.

Love the concept but this was so much longer than it needed to be

O carte care m-a captivat de la inceput desi titlul pare destul de… didactic.
Partial previzibila dar mi-a placut faptul ca finalul a imbinat armonios povestile si vietile tuturor celor implicati.

I originally read some excerpts of this book for a university course where we were looking at climate disaster literature, and I’m happy to have finally come back and read the whole thing. Overall it was very solid, definitely a slow burn in that the plot really didn’t pick up until about the last third of the book, but the writing was so well done that it honestly didn’t matter. Lunde does an incredible job of demonstrating the dire situation that we are in with bees and climate change, while still showing us that there is time to change the course of our future.
