Horribly disappointing. I disliked the art except for the covers. That wasn't Deb. And that certainly wasn't Dexter. I think the execution of the story was the worst though. Every issue rehashed that it was an old high school bully that Dexter was out to get. It wasted at least 2 pages every time. REALLY annoying if you are reading them straight through. And the end? just sorta happened. Lackluster.

Interesting take to read from the POV of a serial killer. Of course, it's hard to know if he gets it right.
The plot was really very, very over the top. And there's some over-writing, too. But in general, it kept me reading.

Legitimately don’t know why I’m still reading these
The writing is terrible, the jokes aren’t clever, and the endless repetition is, well, endless. The worst part is I figured out every aspect of the “mystery” by page 100 (and I suck at mysteries, I never figure them out), except I was wrong about one thing. It was actually so much stupider than I guessed.
In fact everything is getting stupider with each book. Dexter can’t solve simple clues, Rita can’t form a coherent thought or a complete sentence, and Debora can’t do anything except curse, punch Dexter, and demand he solve all of her cases right now while she curses and punches him. Maybe Kyle left out of a pathetic sense of self-centered false nobility, or maybe that was just his excuse.

Thanks to Doubleday for selecting me as a winner of a Goodreads Giveaway for this book!
Fans of the series won't be surprised to learn that all the trademark humor of Dexter is still present in this volume, making for a fun, fast-paced read.
The story may be a bit predictable - and in some places it's not, even to this writer who knows structure - but that's not why Dexter's fans love him. We love the humor, the snark, we love Deb's constant cursing, Rita's fractured sentences, and Aster and Cody's wide, eager eyes.
There's even a bonus family member in this installment.
Overall, an enjoyable read, and one I'll recommend.

Meh, it wasn't awful but I just don't feel like Dexter works well as a comic I guess. Or maybe they just need a different artist. The art here isn't necessarily bad but it's just not very detailed and I don't think it sets the mood very well. Also the plot seems incredibly familiar, although I can't remember if that's because they used a really similar one somewhere in the show/books before or if it's just really generic. It's not a horrible read, but it definitely could have been a lot more involved both in terms of art and story.

This book only gets 3 stars because Dexter as a father is quite frankly pretty insufferable. I know I probably feel that way because I'm not a big fan of babies myself, but also it's just wildly out of character for him to suddenly get so mushy over something like that. As with the show I feel like they use his family as a way to further 'humanize' him and the reason I LIKE Dexter is because he is not like that so it always annoys me more than a little bit.
The rest of the book is just fucking wild though, like I forgot how completely ridiculous a lot of the books in this series are. If you thought 'Dexter is Possessed by an Ancient Demon' was wild then please strap in and get ready for 'Dexter and the Cannibal Vore Barbecue'. Yeah, you heard me. It would have been great if it wasn't intercut with so much fawning over his kid, but at least Brian is back as well.

The book that finally convinced me to stop reading this series. So awful and weirdly boring.
