Dexter Is Delicious by Jeff Lindsay

Dexter is Delicious marks the end of this series for me. I have forced my way through the last few books, but this one solidly puts the nail in the coffin. Do you remember what made Dexter interesting? A serial killer police officer trying to uphold a "code" of rightful killing. Do you know what the opposite is? An ex-serial killer who is now a father and feeling love and human emotion for the first time. On top of that, Deborah, his cop sister with a pair of brass ones, feels her biological clock ticking and wants a family of her own. Throw in a coven of cannibals and you have got yourself one heck of a stew pot full of crap. Dear Mr. Lindsay, please put poor Dexter out of his misery.

SO good! A definitely improvement over #3 and #4. Plus, I only *sort of* had the ending, which pleases me to no end :)

I love the Dexter books. The clever inner dialogue and psychology is well written.

With this book, I give up on the Dexter series (books that is). I found this totally boring and repetitive.

This was the 5th book in the Dexter series, and it was really good! Can't wait for the show to start back up this Fall!

I don't know if the schtick is getting old or if I'm just liking the Showtime Dexter better, but this entry in the Dexter series just didn't do it for me. I may actually have to give up on this series.

Every time I read one of these books, I think to myself that I'm done. Too much cutesy alliteration. Too much flowery language. But...the stories are really good. I get drawn in by the cop drama / mystery of it all. And inevitably wind up wanting to get the next installment as soon as I finish this one. And this was no exception. I started it annoyed by all those things and then just couldn't put it down. Twists and turns and surprises and a satisfying - but not predictable - ending. It's no Shakespeare, but it's got me coming back for the next one.
