This book only gets 3 stars because Dexter as a father is quite frankly pretty insufferable. I know I probably feel that way because I'm not a big fan of babies myself, but also it's just wildly out of character for him to suddenly get so mushy over something like that. As with the show I feel like they use his family as a way to further 'humanize' him and the reason I LIKE Dexter is because he is not like that so it always annoys me more than a little bit.

The rest of the book is just fucking wild though, like I forgot how completely ridiculous a lot of the books in this series are. If you thought 'Dexter is Possessed by an Ancient Demon' was wild then please strap in and get ready for 'Dexter and the Cannibal Vore Barbecue'. Yeah, you heard me. It would have been great if it wasn't intercut with so much fawning over his kid, but at least Brian is back as well.
