This book wasn't my favorite: the plot was decent enough, but I couldn't feel for the protagonists the way I was meant to, and I felt a lot of what occurred was fairly predictable. At the time of this review, it's been a few months since I've read it and I'm having a hard time recalling much about it, other than the coffee shop guy and things I didn't care for much about it. I'd recommend other historical-meets-modern-day mysteries over this one.

Fast and easy read even if the story was somewhat predictable.

Romance, mystery, murder, scandal...this book had it all.
Seattle 1933: a hardworking, single mother is forced to kiss her son goodnight, secure him inside their humble apartment, and leave for work. Daniel, three years old, is the light of Vera Ray's life and it breaks her heart to leave him behind. Alone. But she has no choice. Enter a fluke mid-May snow storm and Vera's life is forever changed as she returns home to find Daniel gone.
Modern day Seattle: Claire Aldridge finds herself stumbling through life in a grief driven fog. A car accident changed her life in unimaginably tragic ways. She feels lost and struggles to find the motivation needed to repair her marriage that teeters on the verge of disrepair. Until a fluke mid-May snowstorm inspires a new's article that will help her find answers and clarity she didn't know she needed.
Two strangers, two mothers, two lives forever altered by tragic loss. Ultimately, the power of love, on various levels, proves to be the catalyst for forgiveness, strength, and the courage to move on.
Amazing read. LOVED.

May 1933- A freak snowstorm hits Seattle and a little boy goes missing.
May 2010- A freak snowstorm hits Seattle and Claire is given the assignment at her newspaper to do a story about it. She stumbles upon the story of the missing boy, and for her own reasons is immediately sucked into it and wants to find out what happened to that little boy.
The book moves from past to present, giving us a full story of the mother of the missing boy, and Claire's search for the truth about him.
I really enjoyed the story, but would have liked more back story on Claire and her husband. How did they meet? etc. There are a lot of coincidences in the book, some believable and some not so much, but this is fiction, right?
All in all, I would recommend this book to my friends and my family because it is a good read. The mystery of the little boy keeps you turning pages and the emotions of the mother of the little boy and of Claire are keenly felt.

Finished in one sitting so be warned! The story focuses on Vera in 1933 who comes home from work to find her son Daniel missing And Claire in 2010, a reporter going through her own heartbreak! Their two stories combine into a wonderful story of love lost and found, family drama and a reunion!

One of the things I so enjoy with [a:Sarah Jio|4467375|Sarah Jio|http://photo.goodreads.com/authors/1323817467p2/4467375.jpg]'s books is I learn something very unique. In [b:Blackberry Winter|15034485|Blackberry Winter|Sarah Jio|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1348678001s/15034485.jpg|18984429] I learned that a blackberry winter is "the term is old-fashioned weather jargon for a late-season cold snap - think of plunging temperatures and snowfall in May just when the delicate white flowers are beginning to appear on the blackberry vines." Then I learned "grave minders have long believed in the legend of the blackberry vine...they choose souls to protect. The special ones." I just love all of that. This story combined two eras, two stories, a mystery and it all takes place in the Seattle area where I lived for over 25 years. [a:Sarah Jio|4467375|Sarah Jio|http://photo.goodreads.com/authors/1323817467p2/4467375.jpg] did it again with a story to get lost in and get goose bumps while reading the last few pages where everything comes together.

This captivating book is about women’s resilience in the face of the unthinkable. In Blackberry Winter, two intertwined story lines — one historic, the other modern day — unfold simultaneously. Brief glimpses of the past reveal long-hidden truths that unveiled, have the power to change current outcomes. This riveting story showcases the emotional strength and courage of women.
