Really? You name your lead character Elizabeth Taylor with no mention of why? The whole thing felt forced to me, like the author was trying desperately to be hip. I realize I came in part way through the series but I got the impression that I didn't miss much.

This book was much better than the previous book in the series. I read it in one sitting and didn't want to put it down until I was done.

My only complaint was the surprise in the attic. Betsy makes a big deal of how she should have listened to the warnings about it and when she finally had to deal with her "surprise" it only lasted a few pages and had no real impact on the book. I did wonder if the "surprise" would turn out to be Betsy's father since he hasn't been seen for a while, but that was pure speculation on my part.

I was sorry to see that Betsy's friend Jessica became sick, and while I understand the reasons given
Spoilerfor not turning Jessica into a vampire,
part of me hopes it does happen.

I'm curious to see where the thing with
Spoilerthe vampire hunter
Jon goes but I'll admit that I don't care for the character and I don't miss him when he's not in the book. I would be happy if Eric or Tina followed through on their desires
Spoilerto kill him
.

Kinda pointless. The plot better resume again soon.

The usual:

Betsy is really dumb, selfish and immature. Eric is gross. Poor Jessica and Mark are token stereotypes. Anyone else get annoyed and start rolling their eyes at Betsy's terrible fear of zombies? And she was crying and helpless? Honestly it was pathetic, especially when she thought something like "I wish I wasn't so dumb." This is Book #5 how is she getting dumber? In the beginning, she was a bit ditzy, but still funny and clever. Now it's going downhill.  This book was a waste of time and honestly shouldn't have been written. I agree with other reviews - this was a filler episode.

In the 5th book in the series, Betsy's life takes some interesting turns. She's approaching her birthday, dealing with a delegates from the European Vampires, trying to plan a wedding, trying to give up blood drinking, and discovering some unsettling news about her best friend. I think that this book opens the door for the series to take a darker turn. Up til now, every big bad that has come her way has been easily defeated, but not this time. Betsy must make some difficult decisions about her future. Oh, and there's a zombie in the attic.

Really 3.5

The beginning of the books is a tad confusing due the fact that things happened between this book and the one before that are never really explained or even mentioned. The reader is just supposed to accept the changes in people and situations and go with it.
Despite that, I managed to enjoy some parts of Unpopular. Yes, there are moments when Betsy is annoying in her self-centeredness, but the situations she gets herself in during the course of this book kind of make up for it. It’s the first book in ages where you can actually see other aspects of her personality, beyond the selfishness, to the girl that has so many great friends.
The minor characters save the day/book in this volume, even the totally randomly inserted zombie is there to help the reader see Betsy in a new light. The laughs and intrigue that they brought into the book save the read for me.
A skip if you’re new to the series, but not a waste of time if you want to follow it thru to the end.

Apparently I missed a book because they are talking about characters and incidents I've never heard of. I don't appreciate character name changes either. Didn't come across as a whole book. Left many things dangling and lacked a full finished plot with was much unlike the previous books.
