Really incredible collection, it resonated with me deeply in different ways and on many levels. I listened to it on audio and appreciated that there was a separate narrator for each essay - it really drove home the individuality of each of these stories. Sad and gripping.

There were certain chapters/stories I loved, and others that were just so-so, hence the 3 star rating.

Loved this. I’ve been thinking a lot about how the wisdom and knowledge and experiences of our mothers and their mothers and their mothers etc. live within us and shape our perspective and the way we navigate the world. Why don’t we talk about it? Bc it’s uncomf and we value our relationships with the woman who raised us, no matter how strained they’ve become. It’s scary to think about losing them. But one thing this book reminded me of is the strength and reach of a mother’s love. Breaking the silence is such a small risk for all of the growth and strengthening that is bound to come.
I’m lucky to have a strong, healthy relationship with my mom and I still feel inspired to know her more and talk about the things that we don’t.

WOW! I am in awe. This book spoke to me on such a deep and meaningful level. While every story was unique and had it's own message and emotions behind it, I felt quite seen in the words from each author of the essays. A shoutout to Nayomi Munaweera's essay as that felt as though my own thoughts were put on a page. The overall message of the book and the way the essays were brought together made me both feel seen and seeing others and their experiences with this concept of motherhood and childhood that is so greatly intertwined in the way that we process the world.

Relationships are complex, and relationships with mothers are no less so. This collection of essays is marvelous — diverse, honest, thoughtful, relatable, and sometimes heavy. It made me both bark with wry laughter and cry. The personal essay is beautifully rendered on every page. I absolutely cherish this book.

Enjoyed the variety of stories and prose that each author gave. Vulnerable collection of moments surrounding mothers both the good and the bad and all vastly different and personal.
