I listened to the audiobook, which included bonus conversation of Evy with her husband. I recommend this version.

I really enjoyed the biographic snippets of this book the most and didn't read it with self-help in mind; I was just curious about Evy's life and work. Of the "self help" (if you can consider it that, since most biographies share life lessons) messages to be had, the point she was most trying to assert is to listen to your gut because the fear response exists for a reason. In a conversation snippet she discusses how people told her to title the book Fearless, but she was vehemently against it because fear is healthy and good -- it has something to tell us.

I really enjoyed the read, but if I'm completely honest it did at times read a bit journalistic, which Evy has a degree in. This could make her come across less personable when she seems like an absolutely wonderful person in her candid conversations. I appreciate the bonus conversation about her writing the book while her father was dying the most because it spoke to her ability to be "bulletproof" and still a vulnerable human. I am interested in exploring more of her work.

I am not a person to read self-help books or even listen to podcasts of people talking about things in general, but as of now, I am a changed person.

This woman is amazing and I fell in love with her while stumbling on one of the videos on Woman of Impact. I was very skeptical to read a Self-help book, none so far were my taste really and I thought all of them are the same, kind of useless and nothing interesting in them. But, in my opinion, this is not the normal self-help book per se. It is a totally different kind of book, some memoir part (her experiences in the Secret Service, the 9/11, etc) some tips and tricks, easy to read and fast to get through. Maybe I am being biased but in the end, I liked this book, and it was useful in a sense, I would even go as far as to say it made me rethink my next step in life and my job.

I guess it doesn't matter what other people say about a book, as long as it helped you think or rethink some aspects of your life, it did its job.

Listened to the audiobook read by the author, a former Secret Service agent.

While it's mostly a book focused on helping you develop your own resilience, figuring out how to read people, and learning how you can influence others, and how they influence you, it's also part memoir as Poumpouras recounts some stories from her time with the Secret Service.

There's good information in here. If you've read about reading body language, psychology studies, self-protection, and the like, there's probably nothing earth shattering. But it's a great primer for someone who wants to learn about these topics.

By far, I preferred listening to her Secret Service stories, and how she tied those stories to the skill she was highlighting. Her section on being Presidential was my favorite.

Poumpouras does a great job narrating her own book. When she's educating her reader, her delivery is consistently clear, and for her stories, her tone varies appropriately. Hearing her voice the marchers in a Pride Parade where she was protecting Hillary Clinton was worth rewinding. She's quite funny.

There’s some interesting advice in this book that’s half how-to/self help and half memoir. However I don’t recommend the audiobook. Some authors read their own book and shouldn’t; she is one of them. What a grating, annoying voice to listen to for 11 hours.

I loved this book!! I learned so much about protecting myself in this crazy world we live in. It helped me feel prepared for anything and gave great tips on how to not let fear rule over my life. It also taught me so much about people and the subtle things that can have the biggest influence on our subconscious! The author gave great tips on how to utilize these influences in our daily lives and the examples she used really helps me understand and digest these tips better.

Overall, the author did an awesome job telling personal stories that were relevant to the topics being discussed, without going overboard on the details. She was straight to the point and nixed any fluff that could detract from the points she was making, while still explaining these concepts fully for the reader to understand. Her personal stories were also very moving and fascinating to listen to. I highly recommend this book!
