Pieces of Her by Karin Slaughter
5.0
Another one of Slaughter's books that constantly had me dumbfounded. Caught myself with my jaw on the floor so many times. I couldn't stop yapping about it to anyone who would listen. Excited to read the sequel next.
Tender Is the Flesh by Agustina Bazterrica
3.0
I love the premise of this book I love that its original language was in Spanish and I could see that influence throughout the text. A lot of people of tiktok had suggested this book as something dark and twisted and in ways it is. I expected much worse from this book. There were only two moments that upset me. Besides the ending. That was awful and I guess I should have expected that
The House of Hidden Meanings by RuPaul
4.0
It was interesting to learn more about Rupaul’s childhood and start in the entertainment industry. I didn’t think we would touch on the topic of addiction and how it can be used as a form of distraction and dissociation from life and how getting clean means learning how to process life hardships and emotions that go along with that but that was my favorite part
The Woman in the Library by Sulari Gentill
3.0
I really liked this book but the ending felt rushed. We finally found out who did it and the unraveling of their actions then outside of the book the Leo was a stalker and apprehended but was he responsible for those killings. And I feel like I still don't understand how he was in correspondence with the author and reading her works. I may have glossed over that part. But then what's the deal with the Leo in the book? Is he meant to be foreshadowing or linked to the other Leo in any way?
Loud: Accept Nothing Less Than the Life You Deserve by Drew Afualo
4.0
It was nice to hear Drew's story in her own words. It was also apparent how growing up with a supportive and loving family can have a profound affect on someone, especially a young woman growing her confidence. I'm realizing as an almost 30 year old woman how much of my fears and anxieties could have been quelled when I was younger if my parents treated me differently. I am now navigating how to be proud, confident, and independent! I'm not as strong or loud as Drew yet, but I've got time
The Overnight Guest by Heather Gudenkauf
4.0
I really enjoyed this book. I love when multiple storylines come together. I was not expecting that to be the culprit and its very rare these days I can't figure out who's responsible early on in the story
My Darling Dreadful Thing by Johanna van Veen
5.0
This was an excellent take on a ghost story. A fun way to have the spirits as companions and also a sapphic love story
The Coven by Harper L. Woods
2.0
I liked the witch and magic portion of this book but there were so many moments where I rolled my eyes and said, "Really?" I think there is a decent plot and alright characters but it feels unpolished. So many ideas that are hardly tied together. It feels like someone made a storyboard and started using too much red yarn without caring how it would be written out and blindly connecting ideas and hoping for the best. I don't think I'll continue this series, but good luck to Willow I guess
