Pantone: The 20th Century in Color by Leatrice Eiseman, Keith Recker

Interesting view of the 20th century in different color palettes, fashions, events and themes in the world, though mainly in the U.S. I’d love to use the color palettes and the contexts as an inspiration in my art and that was the reason why I got the book in the first place. The book didn’t inclue a lot of poc culture or minority culture in general, except some mentions about disco, civil rights etc. until the 90s.As an European can’t tell if that is a deliberate choice or a part of American culture taking a long time to embrace poc culture in the mainstream.

This was such an interesting book and a great read. I loved all the characters (except Dora was not as well crafted as the others) and the tragedy and happiness of the story. Some parts were heartwrenchingly realistic while others seemed kind of unreal and forced for the plot development (like everybody happening to be able to take care of him and his mother monetary wise). But overall the story grapped me the whole time and I was so sad and happy and mesmerised by the whole experience.

This is the first book I’ve ever read by Rupi Kaur. The poems touched on important topics and great reminders for life, but was a bit too self-helpy for my taste, also with a too American cultural point of view for me to enjoy. This was kinda like reading twitter in some parts which also disappointed me and my expectations about this book.

TJ Klune has real magic in his books. I loved the House on the Cerulean Sea and I was excited to read this one as well and it did not dissapoint. This story was like a warm hug all the way through, it made me laugh, it made me think and the romance was so cute; even though the premise of falling in love with a ghost was almost cringy, it was done in a way that it was almost impossible for me to disslike it in any way. All the characters were amazing and fun and interesting, and only thing I would’ve wished was a bit more worldbuilding.

This book took a whole another turn from the earlier three, it got way more abstract and to be honest, confusing. The author has made such a beautiful world but it ended in such a chaos. The ending also disappointed me since I wanted a happy ending but instead of even a sad or a bittersweet ending it’s just mostly disappointing.
The plot towards finding the god and the other etc. turned obsession about the horn of plenty which I felt like didn’t really fit the plot of the previous books. The pacing was also uncomfortable.

A beautiful piece of gothic literature. Never has a character in a book disturbed me so much, and Emily Bronte’s beautiful use of foreshadowing made the already wonderful ending just perfectly bittersweet. The moors and their changing weathers gave the perfect mood for such a moody book.

Perfect winter read. The medieval Russian folklore setting was really interesting and relatable from Finnish folklore pow. I loved the writing, but didn’t care for the main character that much.

Comfortably/boringly predictable. Loved the family aspect of the story, even though the characters, especially sadly the love interests, were pretty plain and there were some parts that kinda shouted internalised misogony..
