This was a fun and gruesom read. The spice level was INSANE but I really enjoyed it. The audiobook is absolutely the way to go with this one. The narrators did an incredible job.
This book was a bit slow at first because there was a lot of world building and info dumping, HOWEVER, once I got into the story I absolutely loved it! I love Zevander's backstory. And the dark and gruesome vibes of the book were so good.
Some of my favorite quotes;
I'd learned at too early an age that the sound of a girl's scream drew nothing more than apathy.
And nothing invokes fear quite like the peculiar.
How tragic that a woman's worth equated to the depth of a man's pockets.
Belief if power. Without it, the gods do not truly exist.
I thought this story was super cute and it had been on my radar for a while. Some of the stuff seemed kind of unnecessary... not sure how to explain. But I loved the characters and I thought it had some unique things about it along with predictability, considering it's supposed to have a rom-com feel.
Dogs barking, children yelling, car horns carrying down the sand from the... what's that word again? Oh, street.
That quote was such a cute nod to The Little Mermaid.
Dominic: "Okay, I may have been dumped recently." That scowl on Ross's face comes back. I think it's the most natural position for his face. Ross: "You were taken to a trash removal site?"
This was a nice light romance read in between some of my darker fantasy books. I was a little thrown off by how modern it was considering the word "rizz" was used a couple of times and TikTok was mentioned. However I really enjoyed it and sped right through it! One thing I did love is the bigger built FMC.
I enjoyed this book overall, just not as much as his other works. I think the story was extremely creative and interesting, but some of the political things in purgatory were a little bit confusing for me.
When a god no longer cares for revenge, their time is indeed done.
... their Jesuses, Buddhas, Muhammads, they are aloof, distant. Why, they do not even show themselves. How can you worship a god you cannot see?
Heaven is full of sheep. Hell is full of those who actually shaped the world. Men who carved out their own paths, the courageous, the bold, they are the ones who end up dammed.
There will never be an end to suffering. You do what you can, only what you can. Peace comes from knowing you helped those that you could.
This book was kind of cute. I mostly read it because the movie will be coming out soon and I'd heard a bit about it. It was a bit too predictable for me and the internal monologs of Lucy are pretty ridiculous. Very teen romance like but with adult themes. It was a quick cute read though.
This really gives you the perspective of a 5th Grade girl. It's so powerful and insightful. I honestly loved reading it because it put myself in my students' shoes.
Really interesting story. I love the use of folktales to drive the story, and it's a very unique storyline. I feel a bit confused at the end, but I feel like I have a decent grasp on it. However, it was definitely a page-turner.
It's a condition of living,' she said. 'Besides, judging a story by the ending alone, or a life by its death alone, is as pointless as judging a long hike through the mountains by the fact that when you get back to where you parked your car, there's a pit toilet full of you-know-what and beer cans.
This series just keeps getting better and better with each book. I LOVE the twists and turns and the unpredictability! Can't wait to read the next one!
