bro. my braincells can’t keep up with this. stevie bell you are my hero honestly how the fuck does your brain solve this crap.

on another note, i loved this. could do without the romance but the plot made up for it.

if i had to describe this book in one word, it would be simple. the plot was standard and honestly, the climax was horrible. i don’t understand what happened at the end but i’m too tired to figure it out. but simple doesn’t mean bad, it’s an enjoyable book to say the least.

but where this book falls short is that it’s a standalone. nothing was developed, from the romance to the world, there was nothing that was explained in explicit detail because there wasn’t time to flesh it out. on top of that, the two main characters were so quick to grow on one another that nothing felt genuine (even though they were super cute) and things were only moving forward due to plot convenience.

i knew coming into this that a 300 page book meant that they’d probably say “i love you” at the end of a short time span, but i was still thrown off guard nevertheless, and that’s the main reason my rating is lower than it could be.

this book was fucking sad. it’s raw and emotional and damn. but i’m gonna say that thaddeus and shayna are my favourite characters, i love them with my whole ass heart.

the message? great. necessary. important.
the characters? unlikable. annoying as fuck. over dramatic.

there’s no chemistry between anyone, things are flung out of nowhere and there’s no progression whatsoever. the plot bored me to death and art reminded me so much of this boy in my class that i had to take a double take (not in a particularly good way either-)

when I tell you I'm still seething over that ending almost 24 hours later, i'm not lying. at some point i practically threw the book across the room and then proceeded to start pacing before sitting silently in a corner as i processed everything.

surprisingly, i actually saw one of the plot twists coming, but everything after that was just one big gasp after another. this was incredible. jude finally grew on me. sure, she makes horrible decisions sometimes and is incredibly flawed, but it would be so much worse if she was perfect.she was harsh yet remorseful in this book and i loved how resilient she was. to say i'm invested in her relationship with cardan would be an understatement.

locke however, can rot. i hated him before, and still i hate him now. whenever he was merely mentioned on a page i wanted to yell. honestly he and taryn can go to hell together. maybe madoc can join them.

the best thing about this trilogy is that all the characters are so unlikable, and yet so intriguing. black does an incredible job at that, and if everyone doesn't get somewhat of a happy ending in the next book i might not survive.
