The Wicked King by Holly Black
5.0
rating:5 stars
when I tell you I'm still seething over that ending almost 24 hours later, i'm not lying. at some point i practically threw the book across the room and then proceeded to start pacing before sitting silently in a corner as i processed everything.
surprisingly, i actually saw one of the plot twists coming, but everything after that was just one big gasp after another. this was incredible. jude finally grew on me. sure, she makes horrible decisions sometimes and is incredibly flawed, but it would be so much worse if she was perfect.she was harsh yet remorseful in this book and i loved how resilient she was. to say i'm invested in her relationship with cardan would be an understatement.
locke however, can rot. i hated him before, and still i hate him now. whenever he was merely mentioned on a page i wanted to yell. honestly he and taryn can go to hell together. maybe madoc can join them.
the best thing about this trilogy is that all the characters are so unlikable, and yet so intriguing. black does an incredible job at that, and if everyone doesn't get somewhat of a happy ending in the next book i might not survive.
