King of Greed by Ana Huang

I was rather skeptical coming into this book, as I’m not a huge fan of the whole ‘second chance’ trope. I almost didn’t continue at chapter 3, simply because it hit me way too personally, but I pushed through.

The contrast of Alessandra and Dominic’s present-day relationship to their past-day relationship through Ále’s POV brought me to tears. The stark difference between what they used to be compared to what they had become at the beginning of the book was heart-wrenchingly devastating, and an all too familiar feeling I could (and hate to) relate to.

I did like the flashbacks to their Thayer days, and while it was… nice… getting both of their perspectives of the same interaction, it was the exact same conversations that I’d already read in previous chapters. It seemed like it was repeated to bring up the total word count/make the book longer (like with starting each chapter on the left hand page side even if it could have been started on the right hand side).

I honestly didn’t know if I wanted the story to end with them staying split up or getting back together. Ále 1000% deserved better, and Dom 100% deserved to face the consequences of his lack of attentiveness to his wife during the last half of their 10 years of marriage, and I really believe Ále deserved to find someone who would love her forever without having to lose her to realise he was being an ass. But Ana made it work.

4/5 stars because while I wanted to give it 3 because I related too much to Ále’s experience and rehashing that sucked, it was a very cleverly-crafted piece that brought me to tears, had me disliking the storyline (because I was Ále), but also had me wanting to know how it ended.

Edit: I was just driving and randomly thought about the Dom and Roman storyline. It just seemed quite random and thrown in there. That whole brotherhood in itself could have fleshed out the book more. There definitely could have been more in-depth backstory between the two and their history in the foster house. It felt like it was just thrown in there for a more interesting plot, and while it was more interesting having that subplot, it could have been touched on much better than it was

The relief I felt when this book ended is incomparable.

This book was… interesting to say the least. It took everything in me to not DNF. Listening to Chapters 11 and 12 was a painful experience to persevere through, it definitely was not for me. I knew the ‘daddy’ kink wasn’t for me, but I never knew I hated it with such an undying passion until this book.

Somehow the plot line held my interest enough to drag myself through to the end; I just wanted to see if she ended up leaving Jafar after all her talk about wanting to make it on her own. But my LORD, Katee Robert did not make it easy for me. And somehow the story felt like it dragged on for much longer. It was rather slow-paced through the middle-end in my opinion, could’ve been because I was eager to finish it and move on to the next book in the series.

The redeeming factor that made me give 3 stars was the plot and the twists that made their appearance towards the end.

Here’s to hoping the daddy kink ends in this book (fingers and toes crossed)

The storyline’s interesting enough, for sure. But there could have been a lot more flesh to the plot. The ending was rather anticlimactic also. Character development was good. Spice was SPICING, the dynamic between Hades, Meg and Hercules was written well.

Pleased to say that the daddy kink stayed in the first book, and best part is that you don’t need to read the first book to read this one, so for anyone not into that kink I’m happy to tell you that you can skip the book entirely

I’m torn over this one. On one hand it felt better to read than Desperate Measures (not hard to beat) and the ending was more climactic than Learned My Lesson, but it still didn’t FEEL like it was on-par with my other 4-star reads. But 4-stars it is because I cannot put it in the same category as the first 2.

These books are very much character driven, and the dynamic between Hook and Tink was *chef’s kiss*, her with her ‘fuck you’ personality, him with his ‘no but I love you’ simping. It was splendid.

It felt kind of ~meh~ when I finished. I didn’t overly hate it, but I didn’t overly like it. Not the most riveting storyline, and I think Triton’s reaction to Ariel (I can’t remember their story names oops) saying she wants to stay with Ursula and Eric was wholly underwhelming.

I was not expecting this book to go off so hard

The plot was plotting, there’s so much more to unfold and this book has set it up the next one nicely. There’s already brewing conflict and I AM HERE FOR IT !!

The characters each have their charms (not looking at you Malakai, you can choke) and are well written

The romance (and the spice
