Zach and Annie’s novella is always super duper cute, and the love between them always makes me really happy. Zach is an icon and I wish we got to see more of him in the main story
In the Nalini Singh-verse, this book is a 3.5 star for me. In comparison to all the books I’ve read it’s a 4 star. Over my decade of reading this series, this is the book I consistently struggle the most to get into. I don’t know why. It’s got everything a gal should likr: - trauma and healing - a morally grey character - political intrigue - violence
Last year I think I rated it a 4 something star and really liked it. This time I’ve read it as a bit clunky and I have no idea why. Brenna irks me but she does get better at the end.
Also omg the foreshadowingggg
The hyenas are programmed by the Psy to attack SD, the DawnSky deer pack were butchered, Dieter was the one who tried to kill her and they fucked the stock exchange
I started this book 1 Jan 2022.. I just finished it on the 18th August 2024. THIS WAS SUCH A LONG READ - THANK GOODNESS FOR THE GRAPHS AND TABLES BUT OH MY GOODNESS. It was a good and insightful book but at some parts could be extremely monotone (tho, to be fair, I'm a qualitative person and not a quantitative).
I'm not picking up this book for another 40 years :)) - also be prepared for the "all is doomed" final chapter BECAUSE I WAS NOT.

4.5
This is the second Katie Ruggle book and solidified for me that she will be an immediate-buy author.
Reading this series, you can tell that not a lot of focus is given in looking beneath the surface of the characters - especially the male leads. It is a bit disconcerting because you are left with many questions on the backstory, but the found family trope, badass leads and a thriller plot makes up for it. There were so many grip your arm chair moments, which were high intensity, high fear moments.
I could read this story everyday for the rest of my life and not get sick of it. I love love love this story - love the love between Stefan and Tazi, love the lil jokes about changeling sharks, love the look into a different culture. Love the respect shone to everything. ITS JUST SO GOOD
My liking of the book changes each time I read it. It’s either 10/10 or mid. The book is definitely a story-progresser and their love romance didn’t make me kick my feet. But the foretelling in this book for the series (and a cute lil Easter egg for guild Hunter if you pay close attention) is SOO important. There’s more Judd, and slightly more importantly, there’s Krycheck - who we can all agree we’d die for. There’s also more of Hawke and his funny flirting. The book really picks up at the end, and honestly the last 30 or so pages are the most important, and the best. Faith’s character develops over the course of this book but doesn’t fully pick up for another few books.
Overall, a good quick read that you can put on 1.7 speed and still catch everything -> though it is also so important to listen out to the tiny foreshadowing details e.g. Sahara and being caged; Anthony and the rebellion; the netmind and darkmind; KALEB; Hawke not being able to mate

5 stars, can I say anything else?? I have read this book like a hundred times in nearly over a decade, and each year it ages like goddamn fine wine. These two have gone through everything with me, and they still make me squeal, blush and kick my toes like i’m talking to a crush. It’s also how my partner of 2.5 years realised that I am a SUCKER for a girl flirt (also known as Lucas). EVERYONE needs to read this because I FUCKING ADORE THEM.
also to my friend who said Sascha was a lil whiny, lowkey see it towards rhe end but I also would be overdramatic if I thought I was gonna go bye bye. I just froth this book and everything about it.
