might sound weird but a really beautiful depiction of grief.. terribly sad and hard to read at times but worth it nonetheless

Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier

slow but worth it for all the beauty in the writing.
despite knowing what was coming i still felt surprised by the way it went down. in the end, it felt like everything wrapped up perfectly in a nice little bow. awesome

a beautiful and heartbreaking story. loved the references to frankenstein and the comparison of charlie to frankensteins monster, how he became burdened with knowledge and it made him cynical.
one part that made me incredibly sad was when norma refused to put rose in a home despite her senility but similarly, everyone was more than happy to send charlie to one.
"a child may not know how to feed itself, or what to eat, yet it knows hunger."
im glad to have read this

Written on the Body by Jeanette Winterson
tbh this is one of those books where i have no idea how to rate this. its good and jeanette winterson is clearly very talented. her prose is something i dont see often but that i wish i did. it sounds silly but something about the way she writes feels comforting and warm. need to read more from her for sure.

thought it was beautiful to see their love for each other be so intermingled with hatred. there was always this undercurrent of anger in everything they did, this weird feeling that they could hurt each other but were making a deliberate choice not to every time they were together. it's strange because it shouldn't be romantic at all but it is. especially that part with the bricks. really gorgeous.
"If you cannot love me, I will die. Before you came I wanted to die, I have told you many times. It is cruel to have made me want to live only to make my death more bloody."

"It isn't only that he died, or how he died; it is what he died believing. And so I try to be kind to everything I see, and in everything I see, I see him."
my fave book of all time. though i find all the criticism for it valid, i think it all pales in the face of how gorgeous and incredible the writing is. i have never read anything so beautiful, and i don't know if i ever will. three years later and i still think of it often.
