My Favorite Half-Night Stand by Christina Lauren
3.0
I really enjoyed this book, however it isn’t my favorite by these two very endearing writers. My guess is had I not read it JUST after finishing Josh and Hazel it probably would have been a 4 star read.
So all of the men in Millie’s friend group are a very likeable bunch. However Reid is the one she’s into. I get it, he’s charming, smart, and an all around good guy. I did find him a little two dimensional though. Millie on the other hand I related to A LOT!! She has issues with opening up, her childhood was hard for her. She has to learn to stop viewing it with a kids eye, and finally come to grips with it from an adult perspective. Unfortunately during that road to discovery she makes a few wrong decisions, however as you can expect it has a happy ending.
This love story was a bit less cutesy and a bit more real on the delving into emotional hang ups. If parental death is a trigger for you then I’d suggest skipping this one!!

I had this book on my radar when it first came out ages ago and then promptly forgot about it. I was reminded of it a few weeks ago, so I picked it up from the library. I and not sure how I feel about it though. My initial reaction is that I really liked it, at least until the last couple of chapters.
I am not a big fan of love triangles, especially ones where I don’t get the attraction to one of them. For example, I never understood “team Jacob” in Twilight. He was never meant to be with her... I don’t get anyone who is Team Aspen in this book. He ditched her, let pride get in the way, and basically gave up on her. Good riddance to bad rubbish I’d say!!
So that said I found myself smiling at the cute moments between America and Maxon. I’m cheering for them 100%! I could really do with some more of the world building out of this book as well. I definitely get some book burning, keep the lower castes illiterate vibes so we’ll see how it goes with the next few books.

Holy in love Batman, can we talk about how much I LOVED this book!! Seriously though, I didn’t expect it at all. I thought it would be a good 3-4 star book, as contemporary romances have never really been my thing. Not in a 5 star I’d read it over and over again kind of way.
Well let me tell you I’m in love with this book and these characters. I relate sooo hard with Lucy and Josh. I felt like such an idiot reading this because I was constantly grinning like a loon. The the “hate,” and the miscommunications, the love, and the steaminess were all cultivated into the perfect storm of a story and relationship. I probably loved it so much because Josh is the type of guy I find myself into. Shy, self-assured, a bit of an ass, but deep down a nice guy... hahaha
Basically boy and girl pretend to hate each other, and shenanigans ensues! It was fun, witty, and a true happy ending.

The 12 Dancing Princesses is one of my favorite fairytales from my childhood mostly because I was in love with Kay Nielsen’s illustrations. When I heard Owlcrate was making this their August book I was excited, then my book club decided that was the book we were reading for September!! Double win!
I won’t lie this book was really good, probably in my current top 5 for the year. It is so descriptive, and keeps you on your toes the whole time. There’s some throwbacks to it’s inspiration but honestly this story stands on its own two feet. It’s definitely a bit gruesome at times, and the atmosphere Erin created was intense. There were times I was cursing her because I couldn’t figure it out, and I was despairing the lack of a happy ending. My main criticism would be that the ending was rushed and not as fleshed out as it should have been. Her descriptions of the immediate family and home were fantastic, but not enough time was given to the rest of the world. Especially since it is that world in which plays a huge part to the plot twist.
All that said, turns out I’m really happy with the ending and I can’t wait to see what she comes out with next. Considering this is her debut novel I’m in awe and impatiently waiting for more of her magic!!
