Wilder Girls by Rory Power
2.0
Sooooo hmmm what can I say about Wilder Girls!? First of all I didn’t hate it, but it left me really frustrated and not in a good way.
So the good. Its a fast paced read and it grips you from the beginning. The girls in this book are written as strong female characters which I liked, and they didn’t apology for it! Go feminism! The descriptions in this book are so vivid and lifelike, honestly I gagged a few times it was so descriptive!! So major kudos for that!!
What I wasn’t a fan of was the dead end plots. This book went no where fast. There’s tons of descriptions and some action, but there’s no backstory to engage you to the characters. There’s no purpose to the story and you get to the end with more questions than answers and feeling like you read half a book. The author says it’s stand-alone but I just can’t buy that. If it is, then I invested in reading this for zero payoff. Also one last thing, I didn’t get why we got chapters in Byatt’s POV?? It didn’t elevate the story or give much extra information.
All in all I give it three stars. I didn’t hate it, I didn’t love it, and I finished it seriously frustrated. That said if there was a sequel I’d read it because I NEED TO KNOW WHAT’S GOING ON!!! Haha
