Juliet Takes a Breath by Gabby Rivera

The plot of this book can really be summed up in one quote from it: “Feminism. I’m new to it. The word still sounds weird and wrong. Too white, too structured, too foreign: something I can’t claim." So for anyone who says it doesn’t have a plot there you go.

I wanted to DNF this book from the start. I hated the language, Harlowe, and her hippy dippyness! I realize now that Harlowe is important to this story though... she is what’s wrong with feminism, specifically white feminism. She is the antagonist. That said her book and all her “stuff” was more than I wanted to read.

I continued reading the book though out of obligation to the group, and honestly I’m glad I did. If I hadn’t, I would have missed the point of Harlowe as a character. I wouldn’t have gotten to listen to Juliet walk me through the beginnings of her queer journey. This is not a book that shows you things, and allows you to interpret them. This is a book that tells you things and expects you to listen!! I find that so important in a story like this and I loved it. I know it makes a lot of people uncomfortable, but honestly get over yourself and listen!!

Overall I give it 4 stars... Juliet’s journey is one I embraced and I’d love to read more. Also Lil’ Melvin her brother is my favorite person in the entire book, closely followed my Juliets ride or die bomb ass cousin Ava!!!

I believe this was a debut novel and I really loved it! I definitely adore a second chance love story (probably why Persuasion is my favorite Austen), and I require a happy ending in all my love stories!! Spoiler this one doesn’t disappoint haha

I will say this is the first time I’ve fallen in love with a secondary character more than the main. Natalie is the best ever!! I can’t wait to read her book next!!

Can we talk about that ending though!!!! Seriously I am addicted and Thomas is mega swoon worthy! Seriously a 10/10 for me.

This was a really good story and I didn’t not figure it out before the ending. That’s how I know it was good haha. The progression of the relationship between Wadsworth and Cresswell was quite the ride let me tell you.

The gruesome was less gruesome I think, but some of the surprises were icky haha but not in a eww I’m not reading way. I think this series would make a fabulous tv show or movie. This book in particular would make for an excellent Indiana Jones style movie!! J’adore

This was Natalie’s love story and it did NOT disappoint. I love how true to herself this heroine is and even through her doubts she stays insanely strong. I loved this book so much and it’s my favorite of the series so far (okay ok I’ve only read the two, but still).

Garrett the love interest was such a complex character and the author insured his journey had good pacing. I always hate when issues are resolved with no depth or reality. This had enough reality to keep it interesting but obviously ended in a satisfying and meaningful way.

I’m so enjoying reading this author and the books just keep getting better and better!!
Dangerous Alliance: An Austentacious Romance by Jennieke Cohen

This was a really cute book. I love how the author wrote it during the time of Jane Austen and about characters who would be reading her books during the time they were written.

It definitely isn’t a remake of an Austen story and it doesn’t feel like an Austen story so if that puts you off don’t worry! If that’s what attracts you to it then you may have a few little disappointments. Overall though I enjoyed it and read it in one sitting!!

I wish there was a better epilogue to the book to leave me with that Austen warm and fuzzy feeling. That said it’s still a good ending. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys clean regency romance stories and Jane Austen fans !!

Alright I adored Nancy Drew as a little girl. I think I started reading them at about 8 yrs old. So this year when someone suggested a Nancy Drew read-along I jumped all in!!

Fair warning I’m reading the original 1930’s editions (because that’s what I have), so mine will be different from many others who read these.

First of all these are not PC (queue shocked face)! This book is highly derogatory to African Americans and in 2020 it’s hard to read. I’m taking it within the context of the time it was written but it’s awful in parts and cringe!!

Secondly Nancy is a really REALLY presumptuous and privileged little **** haha. Honestly this book felt like a WIP versus a completed version of the story. She’s lucky she’s not dead and her dad is all ehhh you’re okay so no harm done. *mind blown*

All in all I give it three stars for nostalgia but I’m ready to move on to the next books in the series.

Woven in Moonlight was such a unique and magical story. I went into this story blind, and knew nothing about it or it’s origins. I didn’t even realize it was a fantasy book until I started reading, so I was pleasantly surprised.

I give this 4.5 stars because the characters and storyline were compelling and I completely bought into it. The magic some of the characters wielded was really amazing and something I haven’t really seen before. It’s beautifully written and I’d love to see this turned into a tv show or movie just to have the visual of the amazing tapestries described in the story.

I did knock off half a star because I felt there was a little lacking in the world building. Where does this magic come from, what exactly is the history of the different peoples of the world, etc.? I’m excited to read the next book of hers that takes place in this world and hoping it gives more info!!

Thank you Netgalley for the ARC copy

I don’t think this book is my favorite of the series... it has just soooo much information. That said it’s still such an amazing continuation of Aelin’s story!!

I will say I cried at least 3 times while reading this book and it wasn’t even my first time reading it *facepalm*.

There are three different plot lines happening in this book. You have Celeana/Aelin and the Fae, Chaol/Dorian/Aedion and the king, and then the witches with Manon. That’s a lot of story to keep straight and I can’t imagine how she must have kept it straight to write it. All three stories could have easily been standalone stories, but since they all happen at the same time it made sense for it all to be in one book.

If you read the first two books I highly recommend continuing on! If you haven’t, this is not a book that can stand alone you need to read the others first!
