This is a book I would have loved to read when I was a teenager. Adventures, politics that aren't too complicated to understand, a geeky heroine that loves science, gay and bi characters that are happy and are absolutely not defined by their romantic orientations…
I love this book: the story, the characters, the universe it's set it. Really really recommend the whole saga!

Read right after The Song of Achilles. I love Miller's characters, their stark personalities and their voices.

I had heard of Circe before of course, but I didn't know that much about her except that she was a witch who turned Odysseus's men into pigs.
And here I discovered such a rich universe, gods and naiads, islands and seas, countless encounters, prophecies, love and sorrow.
The struggle of a goddess bound to eternal life but drawn to humans.
The beauty of her work as a witch, her experience and her experiments.

This book made me travel, dream, laugh, and I am very grateful to Madeline Miller for that.

I absolutely loved Fangirl and Eleanor&Park, so I expected to be whooped by the story in Attachments.

Well, I wasn't.

(Granted, it was Rowell's first book)

You follow two sets of characters: on the one hand, Lincoln, an IT guy; on the other, Beth and Jennifer, friends who exchange long emails.
I liked Beth and Jennifer's exchanges and seeing them become more personal over time, but… I didn't feel enticed by the story for the first half of it, and the ending felt too rushed and romantic. (Yes, this is a love story, it's very obvious isn't it)

This is a book written by a QPOC with a QPOC as a main character! The queerness of the character is absolutely not discussed in the novel though. The story is about family, identity, depression, friendship and feeling out of place.
I love the main character so much and I want to give him big hugs.

I also loved learning about the Iranian culture, their language, their food and their traditions. It's a lovely book.

This is a sweet story, of love and fame and gods and war.

I knew the story of Achilles and Patroclus already, I've read many takes on the Trojan War, and still I loved to revisit these characters, especially from the eyes of Patroclus who is always a side character in the usual Greek epics.
His sweetness, his relentless love, his simple recollection of Achilles's and his time together, it all makes for a nice book to read when you don't want a complicated tale and you love queer stories and mythology.
