it’s embarrassing how long this took me to read but i enjoyed it. i find the dust bowl and the great depression super interesting from a historical point of view and this book does a great job at showing the circumstances that surround the character

i have such a deep love for the stories i really enjoyed in the anthology that i’m willing to overlook the ones that i felt weren’t as well written or i thought were too cliched
i really love the idea and concept of love so i feel in that regard this book was made for me and some of those stories really provoked really emotional response for me
i also admire the attention detail and creativity with adapting these myths

the book’s concept was really interesting and it’s format (the epistolary aspect) was something that really appealed to me but it was poorly executed
the characters just fell flat for me like there wasn’t much substance to them and it’s so obvious the book was relying on intense gore to carry the plot. But gore alone just never makes good horror. I just don’t get the hype at all

this might’ve actually been one of the most complex things i’ve ever read. but i actually enjoyed it ?? i mean i have a lot of thoughts mostly because she covered so much in this book and i’m looking forward to talking about it in lit soc so i can try and make those thoughts more coherent. will be thinking many thoughts about sally and clarissa tonight

everyone always focuses on how absurd and chillinging the ending is, but there are some brilliant moments in the beginning of the book in England that are pretty funny in the way satires always are and i don’t think that gets enough credit
Brighton Rock by Graham Greene
i just feel such sympathy towards rose who was used as both a pawn by pinky and ida and then has arguably one of the saddest endings in the book (watching pinky die, having to move back with her parents, about to hear the record) all because of the games other people played around her. she definitely had it awful
