see i didn’t expect to get emotional while reading it. like i feel like i’ve left it feeling quite heavy hearted. it was really good though!! really enjoyed slowly finding out how their world worked and their places in it. i also really enjoyed the characters’ perspectives about their fates. like with ruth and her office and just little things like that i suppose. they really helped to make the book work.

okay while it wasn’t perfect (note: the random fucking manifesto in the book that was just jarring) i definitely get why people are always like read it !! orwell definitely sucked but this book did a really good job about portraying totalitarianism in a way that’s very easy for people to digest and absorb. also i get that the characters are probably meant to be bland but god i couldn’t connect with them at all.
