I admittedly listen to this once and it was like white noise only bc I was grossly involved in a project. I listened to it again and loved it. I loved the layers.

It was going so well until the last few chapters. It's like the author got tired towards the end. All that for THAT?! Tsek! 🙄

Perhaps because I read this much after it's release, but I didn't encounter glaring grammatical errors, nor did I feel that it needed an editor. On the other hand, I didn't go into this expecting it to be a super serious, compelling thriller, either. I was refreshed that Kate is not only a grown woman, but a woman in middle age. It's a nice change of pace, especially because she has worries other than some hot coworker while tracking down a serial killer. Hearing about how Kate hates retirement and used to be such a badass agent back in the day did become a little redundant, but it never lasted so long that I felt a need to flip past it. I think that this was a good first book in a series, though it suffers the nearly-perennial thriller series problem of the characters and relationships not being as fleshed out as I would like in the first book. I'm hoping that the relationship between Kate and her partner develops, as well as that we'll see more about Kate's daughter's path to becoming an FBI agent.

An average detective story. I was hoping that it was going to get me with a big mysterious twist but it never did.

I immediately DNF'ed when the author spent paragraphs telling me how hot this lady detective was and how objectified she was because of it but it's ok because she secretly likes the attention and she's in her 50s now but don't worry her body's still rocking. Gross man, do better. 0/5
