Honestly a 3.6 out of 5 for me. The book was okay though the idea of a 55 year old just retired agent was a little weird. Kinda bored through it but the ending was good enough for me to attempt book 2.

I know it took me forever to read this book, but I finally got it done. I enjoyed a lot of it, though feeling like it was a littlel long and, at times, borning. But I couldn't have guessed who it was until a coupel chapters before the murderer was revealed (could have been because it was an audiobook too though, harder to remember who people are). Overall, recommend.
Graphic: Death, Gore, and Murder
Moderate: Violence
Minor: Blood

Listened to this book via Spotify. This was my first audiobook, and I was okay with it, but something about the quote “screaming his head off” didn’t fit with what was happening around it. I feel like the author went into much more detail on other things in the book then just glossed over the grief aspect that would have made the book so much better imo.
I’ve read much worse, but it could be so much better.

Kate Price is a recently retired FBI agent, itching for the kind of mental stimulation she had in the force. When a friend's daughter is brutally murdered, it seems like the perfect opportunity to jump back in. But is Kate ready to abandon her personal life for the rigors of the job?
In comparing this to any given Karin Slaughter or Gillian Flynn, there are huge gaps where more ambitious writers might have added in sparkling dialogue, historical context, intrigue on the force, and grisly details of the crimes. All of this feels purposely left out here. It is a straight-forward murder mystery that is easy to read, easy to remember and track. I was almost a little taken aback because I don't encounter mysteries like this very often. It's a nice halfway point between a police procedural and cozy, and I really enjoyed it for what it was.
