Soul of life and shadow follows Lucia and Arafel. While I found their story to be interesting, at times the dialogue between the two felt very juvenile at times. There was also a few typos that took for a bit to figure out what was trying to be conveyed. That being said, I did enjoy the book and think there is a lot of potential with the series. I look forward to seeing where the next book takes us.

THIS WAS AMAZING!!! It beat my expectations! The story was fantastic and I love the main characters! The love that Arafel and Lucia have for each other is out of this world. I fell in love with a demon from the underworld! I'm ready for book 2!!!!

I'm sorry, but if this chick is meant to be your soulmate, why wouldn't YOU come and protect her as soon as you could?

To be honest, if I was the main character and I was chilling for like 3 weeks with my supposed soulmate's friends, I think that I would become more interested in them than in you.

2/5 stars, DNF.

So many grammatical errors. Needs another round of editing, for sure. There were times where I had to reread paragraphs because there weren't any transitions. The characters were also really flat and underdeveloped. The premise was good, just not executed well.

This book is very romance (w/ some smut) focused and world building second. If you go into with that in mind it is an enjoyable quick read. I'm a sucker for dual POV romance, its such a good way to deepen your understanding of the love interests dynamic. I really enjoyed the concepts but wish they were explored/developed more. I see there's a second one coming out from the POV of a character thats more established in the fantasy part of this realm so maybe we'll get to see more world building. My kindle version had quite a few grammatical errors. All in all it was a fun read and i look forward to the second.

Needs some work

Lot of spelling and grammatical errors, but I did still enjoy it. I would likely read more in this series if they were on KU. They aren’t and idk if I liked it enough to buy the following books.

I hate to give this 2 stars because I generally liked the story (Arafel carried it for me). There is just a lot of polishing that needs to happen in the world building and, especially, the overall editing. I was quite distracted by the number of grammatical and formatting (kindle) errors every few pages.
I’m glad I ended up finishing the book because I think the ending was much stronger than the beginning. I am excited to see the writing mature throughout this series.

A solid start to a refreshing fantasy series with an interesting mythology. The setup is simple, and interconnected standalones are easily my favorite type of books to read - I really like that each book will feature a different Lord and then build on the overarching story and conflict established in this book. Just enough layers of the plot are revealed to keep you engaged and guessing, but the focus is very much on the MCs and their journey to find and accept each other.

The pacing was a bit odd for me at times, and there were certain scenes that felt like they came on very suddenly with no lead in. I suspect these moments and writing will strengthen as the books continue. I would also have liked more detail on the “rules” in this world. Things are explained only as they need to be, which can be fine, but here there were many times when it felt like it was simply created for convenience to move the plot forward. The side characters were my absolute favorite part, and the biggest reason why I’m excited to continue reading the series. I didn’t connect much with the FMC, she’s very passive and unfortunately doesn’t have much to do as she’s a glaring fish out of water, but it surprisingly didn’t bother me as it’s just the circumstance she finds herself in - nothing of her own doing.
