What is it with American publishers now? Ever since Jonathan Franzen's The Corrections, every book they extrude onto their shelves has to be at least that boring.

i think this book is a hit, i think it is thoughtful and easy to read. I loved how the characters are complicated, the book has so much depth. It wasn’t until I read the about the author and saw that the author works in managment consulting that the book made so much sense to me. As an early career burnt out consultant this book gave me so much wisdom I need right now. -1 star for her weird and maybe offensive (?) writing about minority groups, also use of the f slur when a gay character was describing himself (come on girl this book was published in 2018)

It's funny, that I found no-one in this book likeable on a deeper level, but at the same time they were so relatable.
No-one comes out of this clean, there are no pure redemption arcs (except maybe Leo), everyone stuffs up in one way or another.
But they all care, and my goodness the anxieties of the workplace and the worries of who might be backbiting you to which level of management, are so well covered here.
But also, there's no-one I felt should have got a comeuppance that didn't, the only thing missing was that Kenny vanished in the latter chunk of the book.

Read most of this on a flight from Vienna to London - very quick read, but I was hoping for more.

Rounding up, because I mostly loved this, it just went on too long and spread itself a little thin with all the points of view. But she writes some great characters, and I especially loved Rob’s scenes at home. I had a hard time with Lucy’s chapters, because I was invested in her story, but for some reason her chapters were littered with footnotes. I’m sure that was supposed to convey something about her erratic nature or something but I hate footnotes in fiction. HATE. It was kind of funny that she says in the acknowledgments that the footnotes were her favorite part. We’re not seeing eye to eye there but this is still worth picking up.

I liked all the characters and the story was interesting, just a little slow.

One of the most accurate books about what it's like in the "corporate world." Interesting characters treated with real humanity.

3.5 stars. An interesting concept for a book, and I did like it overall, but some of the character development felt sloppy and internally inconsistent from section to section.
