hmmmm i have a lot of thoughts about this book.
spoilers:
the main character is insufferable - im really hoping that was the point. i understand shes become an encapsulation of her shitty parents, childhood, and then their death. but her negative view on the world was so - ugh. how she treated and talked about reva, who genuinely appreciated and loved her. and then how she allowed trevor to treat her. her sense of superiority over others .. i guess that was just her learning what she did from her mother.
i think the ending was interesting... i think it was a facade: this new found love and appreciation after her "rest." ultimately she was romanticizing the death of her best friend... there's no way someone who has been "healed" would ever think like that.
i think the depiction of her depression was not romanticized at least but i just wish i liked her lol. anyways overall, it was an enjoyable read. it was a good story without thinking too deeply into it all.

this was a horrible read, insufferable and inexcusable as its protagonist. Also, there was no need to use so many alternatives to the word "drinking" such as "sucked down" MORE THAN ONCE.

Terrible overall, reads fast once you get into it, though.

The first 80% of this book could've been a short story, and I grew impatient with it. But the ending was so gorgeous it kind of made up for it...

Loved this book. I personally found the main character completely insufferable but I actually enjoyed how we viewed her. I didn't despise her to the point where the book was unreadable but instead was incredibly intrigued by her story. The writing was marvellous and the pacing was really well done.

What piece of privileged, cruel, pointless garbage that was. The main character is unbearable in her endless listings of her "designer jeans", her fur coats, her this and that for which she paid loads and more. She is heartless, cruel and so privileged it hurts. Her year of rest and relaxation was a week of pain and anguish for me. I won't even comment on the cheap and trite ending, cause I have wasted enough time on this novel as it is.

One extra star for the only enjoyable moments in the novel: ones that deal with Dr Tuttle, the most incompetent psychiatrist one can imagine. If there's ever a spin off novel with her as a main character, I might just give it a go.
