My Year of Rest and Relaxation by Ottessa Moshfegh
4.0
hmmmm i have a lot of thoughts about this book.
spoilers:
the main character is insufferable - im really hoping that was the point. i understand shes become an encapsulation of her shitty parents, childhood, and then their death. but her negative view on the world was so - ugh. how she treated and talked about reva, who genuinely appreciated and loved her. and then how she allowed trevor to treat her. her sense of superiority over others .. i guess that was just her learning what she did from her mother.
i think the ending was interesting... i think it was a facade: this new found love and appreciation after her "rest." ultimately she was romanticizing the death of her best friend... there's no way someone who has been "healed" would ever think like that.
i think the depiction of her depression was not romanticized at least but i just wish i liked her lol. anyways overall, it was an enjoyable read. it was a good story without thinking too deeply into it all.
