We welcomed our first born daughter when we lived near Tacoma just prior to that Century 21 Exposition with the new Space Needle but we arrived during the Winter and did not see that spectacular Mount Rainier until Spring! Cannot imagine that Blackberry Winter snow as the Puget Sound area is typically overcast and somewhat mild weather!
This novel imagines an intricate deception of murders and infant reassignments that is enjoyable and interesting.

Fantastic book with a very intriguing story. I really got wrapped up in the story of Vera and her poor lost little boy and I loved that Claire became so personally involved that she felt the need to solve the mystery. It had a very emotional ending and I thought it was just perfect!! My only complaint would be the number of coincidences between the 2 different parts of the story made it feel a bit hokey sometimes, but that didn't take anything away from it, I would still highly recommend it to anyone who has been waiting for a great book.

Too many coincidences and too neat and tidy for my tastes. I would have liked it more if it was a little messier.

This story had me listening on edge to learn what happened to a young single mother and her child during a late Spring snowstorm in Seattle during the depression. There were several threads that ran through the story and came together in the end.

In the end, it was a tad predictable, but that doesn't mean the ride wasn't fun. Barely put this down before finishing it!

Interesting but far too predictable, forced narrative got on my nerves.

I don't usually write book reviews, I feel like they are so personal to the reader; I do enjoy reading book reviews though. I feel like people have been a little hard on this book. I agree with a lot of the complaints, I have a lot of the same complaints about it, but when you get right down to it Sarah Jio is an excellent writer and this book will have any mom running to hug their children and hold them tight to them. I feel like she put a lot of heart into this book and that should be what resonates with us. I can already see a lot of eye rolling and I'm ok with that, mostly I just wanted my thoughts to be heard on this book as well. It is a good book, maybe it could have been a little better, maybe it should be loved for what it is. I really enjoyed it and am looking forward to reading more from Sarah Jio.

I'm a bit over dual time narratives at the moment, so I started the book lacking in some enthusiasm. I found the dialogue unrealistically lengthy and oddly formal and the resolution was too contrived. Overall, a miss for me. I reserve 1 star reviews for books I can't finish but I did get through this, so it gets a 2.

A heartfelt, beautifully woven tale. Love. Loss. Grief. A bigger story. Courageous words: “Let’s beat that statistic.”
