This was cute but really just a run on the mill romance. I had high expectations after really liking the first book in this series, Emma of 83rd Street. Austen’s spoiled, meddling Emma transitions really well to a modern day rich girl on the upper east side. Pride & Prejudice, on the other hand, relies on a miscommunication trope that really needs the Regency era propriety and structure to make it charming.

I adored this and had a huge smile on my face the whole time I listened to the audiobook. I loved the modern updates and it had just enough references to the original book. The banter between Lizzy and Darcy was perfect and I laughed out loud multiple times.

Fun and light, especially as a Jane Austen fan. Making Jane a whovian was kinda awkward. I found it more fun than the Emma adaptation. But in the end these books just make me want to read the real thing

This was more of a 4.5 star situation for me- I loved the way these authors updated the Pride and Prejudice story a la Emma of 83rd Street, a favorite of mine from a year or two ago, and I loved the chemistry between Will and Lizzy! All the pining! All the moody beach scenes! Yes, please!

Elizabeth hates the summer in the Hamptons. She’s lived there her whole life, but every June, her hometown is inundated with rich Manhattanites who party all day and disappear in September. But Lizzy needs to help her parent bakery.

Will is everything Lizzy isn’t. Aloof, arrogant, and well, rich. He knows Lizzy is wrong for him, but he can’t stop thinking about her.

Can the two figure out what the other wants, or is it going to be a summer neither of them forgets for the wrong reason?

This is a fun and angsty romance story with nods to Jane Austin’s Pride and Prejudice that hooked me right from the start. The relationship between Will and Lizzy was so much fun and so full of some fabulous banter. I think great banter is my favorite part of the enemies to lover’s trope and that was most definitely the case with this book. This one is perfect for a lazy and relaxing summer day of reading. It was just so lighthearted and fun. Lizzy’s family was fabulous. I couldn’t imagine having a family like that, but it was so heartwarming to read how fantastic they all were with each other. The writing was well done and lighthearted and evoked so many emotions when I was reading.

This is book two in the For the Love of Austen series, but I had no idea that was the case until I was writing this review, and I don’t feel like I missed anything not having read it.

Thank you to @gallerybooks, and @netgalley for e-arc. All thoughts are my own.

It’s incredibly difficult to adapt a beloved classic. It’s brave to try, and many of the updates are creative. Overall, though, both the plot and the characters fell quite flat for me, and I felt the writing style and some of the character choices were distracting. I did not enjoy it as an adaptation. I don’t think I would have liked it were I unfamiliar with the source material either, but I am probably too biased to judge it fairly on its own.

Average not a top ten recommendation by any means. Light easy read.
