Writing a light hearted book about the appalling things we Brits have done over the centuries needs a fineness of touch to avoid insensitivity and jokes falling flat, but James Felton is up to the job. Lots of people need to read this book, especially those who are least likely to.

You know you’ve done some shady shit in your history if you can fill a book of a selection of the events. You can fill a couple hundred books with shady shit we’ve done as a country but that’s not the point.
This was a humorous look at some of the events that you just don’t get taught about in school, and these events are definitely things all kids should be taught about.
Basically, Britain is a bellend and it always has been.

This was a quick read but interesting as it talks briefly about 52 times when history hasn’t necessarily focused on recording the whole truth about what actually happened.
Nothing changes really - rich, white (mostly English but occasionally broader British) have done exactly what they want, regardless of how their actions might affect others ( generally some mix of poor, female, indigenous). Yes, Britain may have achieved some great things throughout history but, as a nation, we’ve been pretty brutal and certainly are not in a position to judge others.

Short, easy to read, covers important topics and I learned some new things. Very adhd friendly to anchor you into new info.
I know it’s aiming to be comedic but strong trigger warning because it’s dealing with some very traumatic topics and I had to take breaks to process.
What stuck with me is the Chagossians displacement in 1973 and the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre in 1919. The shock of being so recent and not knowing about either made the entire book worthwhile for me.
Also I didn’t know black and green tea comes from the same plant either.

Probably the worst book I've ever read. It smacks of racism, it is biased, it has too much unnecessary foul language (and that is coming from someone who can swear like a trooper) and worst of all, it is endorsed by the most annoying, ignorant and arrogant man on the planet, James O'Brien, a supposed journalist who debauches my favourite radio station, LBC. That alone should stop people from reading it.
Felton has picked the worst part of British history and made us out to be killers, rapists, murderers, racists and everything diabolical in between. He has shown one side of that particular part of history and villified his own country. He his lucky he is alive today because less than one hundred years ago he would have been hanged (and not has he incorrectly kept saying in is book, 'hung') for treason. More's the pity.
Now, I'm not saying that the British are saints, of course we're not, we have done things we shouldn't have but you could take any major country in the world; America, Canada, Australia, most of Europe, most of Asia, most of Africa, India, Pakistan and virtually anyone else, pick out the worst of their history and do exactly the same racist crap as this. It is hardly a book that has been thoroughly researched, you could find all this on Google. It ain't rocket science and yet people buy this and feed this man's lifestyle.
This was classed as comedy, which is why I bought it but it was far from that. The only good thing about this drivel, which you will find contextually is incorrect, in the main, is that it was short at around 150 pages. Any longer and it would have been filed under 'B', standing for both 'Bin', 'Biased' and 'Bullshit'.
Save your money. It's literally not worth the paper it's written on.

Britain: Why does everyone hate us? We ain’t done nuffink wrong!
This book: Hoo boy. You may want to sit down for this.
I would’ve had a chapter on Palestine but tbh I can see why they didn’t.
