Holy Moly, I couldn't put this down. It's a quick read in a good way. The pace is fast, without feeling rushed, and the plot just keeps pulling you in deeper. If you like The Giver or the Divergent series, you will probably enjoy this too.

Solid 3 stars because it was a fun and quick read with a very interesting world/story. While it does have cliches and some moments where you may roll your eyes, I somehow was intrigued and found it hard to put it down.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5. Look at me, reading a book fair purchase within the same calendar year! I am going to need to buy some extra copies of this for the library because it is right up my students’ alleys. Dahlia 16 was genetically engineered in a lab to be a laborer for her city. She has 4,999 identical sisters, all studying to be laborers of some kind. When she gets stuck in an elevator with Trigger 17, who is training to be a special forces soldier, she breaks all kinds rules - and worst of all, doesn’t regret it. When her indiscretions are discovered she finds herself running for her - and her sisters’ - life. Government conspiracies abound here, and I think middle school readers will eat it up. It ends on a cliffhanger, so I am ready to dive into book 2. Recommended for grades 6+.

This book was a NO for me.
Everything is laid out in the open, the clone life is interesting but it gets boring after a while. I was waiting for the plot twist, the revelation, but when it happened it was not enough to save this book for me.
Also, being inside Dahlia’s head is so annoying. Seriously, at every turn she’s asking herself so many questions, she doesn’t understand a thing during the whole torturous book.
Trigger 17 was much more interesting. Maybe this story should have been written through his point of view.

Like the movie The Island, which I loved. Great story, wish it was longer.
