I love this author and her public interviews but this book ended up being different than I expected. It spent much longer on being physically in control of situations than I expected and less time on analyzing human behavior. But I don't regret reading this book, she's so inspiring and definitely taught me some things I didn't know!

I thought this was going to be more of a memoir rather than self help book. The target audience is definitely U.S as it talks about 9/11 and handy tips like how to purchase a bulletproof door and windows. I hope that doesn't come in handy in a wee city in Scotland.

I did find some sections interesting such as rapport building and interview techniques I could use in my professional life.

19% in and realised I'm finding this taxing rather than wanting to read it. It's just dull! Lots of soundbites about facing fear and nothing I haven't heard before. Disappointly lacking any tales from the author's time in the secret service and it hasn't gripped me enough to stay to find out if they ever materialise.

As many others have said, I wish this book had been a memoir and dropped the self help bits. Evy has some fantastic stories to tell, the opening chapter alone is worth the price of the book, but I lost all momentum for the last half of the book explaining how to read people and influence them.

An eye opener into the life of a former secret service agent and what was learnt along the way. Advice should be taken with a pinch of salt and not all aspects of investigation/confrontation will apply to everyone but I loved reading about Poumpouras strength, courage, grace and humility and how that forms part of every choice to move forward in the world, so much admiration for the life shared and otherwise a very engaging author!
