I’m committed to the characters at this point and the mysteries are intriguing. They just don’t quite come together in as a compelling way as you expect.

I continue to enjoy this series and to see how the characters evolve. The one thing continues to annoy me to a degree is the fact that Erica is allowed to get involved the way she does with police investigations. It's not so much the fact that she does things that would not be allowed outside fiction, its more how she treats her husband and family. Still, I like the author's writing and there are always intriguing twists and turns. Some easy to figure out, some not so much. And the the descriptions of the area make me want to visit there.

This was an easy read, and now I remember that I wasn't a huge fan of these books. They are really just cozies, and I look for more from the genre. Engaging characters and the setting is perfect, but the story line is just not really riveting because the author doesn't really tie things together, except at the end. The reader is always waiting for the other shoe to drop. I probably won't be reading another of these

In 1974, a family disappeared during dinner, leaving only a small girl, Ebba, behind. As an adult, she returns to her former home with her husband. Turns out her great-great grandmother was the Angelmaker, convicted of killing unwanted infants.

Her great-grandmother had a fling with Hermann Göring and gave birth to Laura, who married off her daughter to a stern widower with horrible kids, one of whom abused the students at the boarding school his father ran.

All of this gets untangled by Patrick and Erica as they try to figure out who is trying to kill Ebba now. Turns out it is her own husband, Tobias, who snapped after the death of their son, Vincent. Anna gets briefly involved with Tobias, which doesn't help his stability--he tries to kill her too.

A surprisingly strong outing from Läckberg, who sometimes makes her amiable enough crime novels feel like she's following a template. The dual narrative works this time around because none of the instalments are too long or meandering, and their multi-generational approach means that we never have to hang around the unpleasant characters before we move on to the next one.

The modern day material is clearly overstuffed with characters, but they eventually become easy to differentiate and they work themselves to a satisfying head. While Läckberg maintains many of her trademarks, from characters leaving their phones behind to deliberately withholding crucial information from each other, none of them get in the way enough to be truly infuriating this time around.

A fairly interesting story told in a way that properly utilises most of the characters instead of rendering a lot of them as idiotic roadblocks, Buried Angels is one of the worthier entries in the Fjällbacka canon.
