This book was everything I didn’t know I needed and I am so angry with myself for not reading it earlier!

This book is a dystopian masterpiece written for everyone, young and old, boy or girl. It’s frightening, empowering and utterly perfect and I would compare it to books like „the circle“ without hesitation!
A world where there is only one woman and a zillion man, every single one of them dependent on that little girl being alive. Humankind itself is dependent on her and the only thing she really wants is to be loved! Because that’s what being human is about right? What a book!

This book is super exciting, has the perfect plot and adorable characters. They seem to really be alive, to talk to and through the reader with a simplicity and sensitivity that was really unexpected for me! Gender roles are super old skool here but in others ways genders don’t even play a role (holly) and that’s what made the book extra amazing for me.

Spoiler: how a man can play a woman and still be manly and girly and how perfect that was is something only the fletchers can bring to live and I think we need lots more of that in literature!

This book is an ode to science fiction and will forever hold my heart! I can’t wait for the second installment of this series and I know this will forever live on my favorite list of books ever!

Do yourself a favor and read it ⭐️🌙

Eve is the first female that has been born in 50 years , anywhere in the world. Because of this the future survival of the human race rests on her shoulders - no pressure there then! She is protected and has been brought up in a dome away from the world high above London and has been fed a positive view of society that is a complete lie. Now the time has come to match her up with a mate to breed - but will she still be willing when she realises that her entire life has been a sham?

Compelling writing and great characters made this an absorbing read for me, I enjoyed identifying the London monuments that are now submerged under flood waters and found the technology used to keep Eve happy fascinating. The ending was abrupt, and left me feeling frustrated because it is such a cliffhanger that I can’t wait to read the next book - patience certainly isn’t my strong point! An absorbing YA read and an excellent start to this trilogy from husband and wife team Giovanna and Tom Fletcher, I will be eagerly awaiting the next book.

Nature has stopped giving birth to girls and even though scientist do all they can, only boys remain.
Than a miracle happens: a woman conceives naturally and gives birth to a healthy baby girl: Eve.

She is the first girl born in 50 years and she becomes the savior of the human race.
Kept in a tower her entire live, without contact with any boys, she prepares to meet 3 Potentials.
She gets to choose who will become the father of her children, but everything changes when she meets a boy named Bram.

I was expecting a romance heavy book with a bit of sci-fi dystopian mixed in and although that is what I got, it was so much more!
This was all about how much influence the government, science and an organization should have when it comes to the continuation of the human race.
How do you cope with the threat of extinction?

I loved the set up of this book and am very curious to see how this story will continue.
My favorite part was the ending
SpoilerI loved that Eve choose to set herself free an she wasn't rescued like the damsel in distress.

This was quite a slow starter for me then suddenly I was sucked in!

Handmaidens Tale meets Children of Men meets Only Ever Yours this felt very on trend but also something a bit different (I think I have guessed something that was meant to be a big surprise in the later books which will bug me!)

I do get annoyed when books are written to be part of a series though - would of liked a few things wrapped up first before the inevitable cliffhanger!

Exactly what you expect from a YA dystopian novel about the first girl born in over 50 years. The gender stereotypes were clearly necessary for the storyline but they were incredibly simplistic and uninspiring. Very little world building also which made me feel even less connected to the story. There was no real depth to any of the characters, and the narrative was boring at the best of times. It’s an easy read and there were a couple of bright spots but I don’t think I’ll finish the series, 1.5 stars

I borrowed this book for a monthly reading discussion, from my local library via borrow box. This is something I would never have picked up to read, but I started it at 11.30pm and finished it at 4.30am. I could not put it down. I had to know what happened next. I've now borrowed the follow on book as I have to know more

I'm struggling to review this book. I did enjoy it, it felt like the old-school YA dystopian books I used to adore. The synopsis was super interesting, only female born for 50 years, duty to save the population, ethical dilemma and power crazy evil organisation controlling everything. Eve felt very young, and she was quite immature with some of her actions, but that's to be expected for a 16 year old girl who hasn't ever experienced the world before. I wasn't completely sold on the romance, but it was cute and I hope it develops more next book. Overall a strong start to the series and I would recommend it! It wasn't a literary masterpiece and I can't call it a favourite, but I definitely had fun reading it and I want to read the next book for sure.

Where to start!...I loved this book from cover to cover. I've always loved Giovanna's writing and experiencing her tackle a different genre and co write with her husband, I was nervous as first that I wouldn't love it. I could not have been more wrong, this book is incredible! From the unique and intriguing premise to the engaging plot to the loveable and memorable characters, I can not find fault with this book. I am now anxiously awaiting the release of a sequel!!
