I don’t like giving out one star reviews but sometimes it has to be done. The main point here is that this book is point-blank inaccurate. I was already noticing small things but when they slapped a photo clearly from the filming of Help and labeled it as on the set of Hard Days Night it lost all credibility for me.

Then there was the actual text itself. It wasn’t particularly intriguing or revealing in any way but my real issue was with the bold/unfounded claims the author seemed to just put with facts as though they were one. The best example is this sentence about John: “Children who’s parents leave them or die suddenly are often left feeling that they must be in someway responsible.”

Really with a million and one books about the Beatles out there just don’t waste your time.

I mean, it’s a book about The Beatles, so where else can I go besides that? Anything that can put into perspective the kind of lifestyle they lived and thought processes that led to the creation of such beautiful and world-changing songs is something interesting to read. It was a transitional book for me - basically, a book I chose just for the sake of reading - but I actually enjoyed it a lot. I was actually unaware of some of the things this book exposed and now I can’t stop listening to The Beatles. (Not that I didn’t listen to them before, it’s just that my Beatles-listening moments have a graph that has its ups and downs, and right now I am in one of these ups.)

Anyway, very insightful and extremely entertaining if you’re a Beatlemaniac or if you’re just a fan of biographies and music analysis. 3.5/5.

Probably going to keep this book in my car so that I can pull it out and re-read it at any and all times. The Beatles have always been beloved to me, but this book made me certain that they are my favorite band and an absolute force of genius the world will never experience again.

A good book. very interesting stories behind most of the songs.
Author does go way overboard trying to psychoanalyze some songs. Making wildly presumptuous assertions with nothing to back them up with.

This book goes album by album, song by song, uncovering inspiration and motivation behind the Beatles' music. And not just the hits or most well-known songs, every recorded Beatles song. Provides some good insight into the personalities and dynamics of the group.

An excellent read for any Beatles fan. Great for little nibbles of reading when you're feeling kind of restless.
