Emotional and wordy and like looking into the worst kind of mirror for someone with similar mental illnesses to the main character. The interview with Green at the back that reveals he wanted a mystery derailed by the illness of the detective and I feel that puts it all into perspective. 

Absolutely moving but I’m a fan of John Green novels so take that how you will in taking reading advice from me.

If you’re into Greek mythology as a casual thing and enjoy a fun reference, this is for you. If you’re into Greek mythology to the point that you feel some type of way about your favorite gods and legends…you’ll probably get annoyed. 

I can’t stand to give a book where they use the
”if I kill you I’m no better than you”
trope 4 stars or more so that’s the 3.75 rating. It’s a fast read with a political plot that has loads of build-up and very little payoff but that doesn’t matter because it’s mostly an exhibitionist fake dating romance book. I might read others in the series but only when in the mood for something smutty and not something with intrigue.

Criminal Minds in a book. Fun and twisty with a lead character to root for. I will say that I don’t listen to the author’s podcast but there are some moments of narration that feel like they could be lifted from the scripts of one and the dialogue is sometimes a little forced. Overall thoroughly entertaining.

I probably won’t reread it but don’t regret having read it. I would mark higher but there was something about it I couldn’t quite get to settle. The book insists on all kink being normal but there was a weird undercurrent to all that happened.

Even though it was enjoyable, funny, and clever, for some reason it took me longer to get through than most books, hence the rating. I would recommend it but did not devour it.

Very charming. I feel a little less fond of some of the messaging - a good sort of message and theme of how grief and trauma reshape us and how love can heal us but maybe not my favorite execution. Written in a way that’s enjoyable to read but I don’t think I’ll read again.

Half a star knocked off because some of the writing of dramatic moments was not to my taste (excessive caps and eloooongatedddd worrddsssss). More focused on smut and the romance than it is on the plot, but it feels like the domestic “reward” for the involvement of the first book. I loved every second. Probably the only dark series I’ve read that I ever referred to as silly, but it’s the charm of the wish fulfillment writing that will have me rereading.

Set your expectations - it’s a dark romance about a serial killer artist who stalks a girl into loving him. If you can manage your expectations, the book is a breeze and really nice to dive into. I read this and the sequel in rapid succession and I recommend doing that if you want more of the romance.
