i usually hate mysteries but this one was pretty good! i thought i had it figured out but it surprised me in a good way. the author uses “drink in” too often lol but otherwise i like the way she writes! a solid experience tbh.

“Ghost hunters read to filth by haunted house.”

Honestly I was really into it in the beginning, and I kind of fell out of it around the middle… I stuck it out hoping the ending would wow me but I actually hated it, so my rating is generous lol. There was only one character I really liked and they did NOT get the ending they deserved. I did like the concept but it felt a little too tropey and there wasn’t much that made it stand out.

One star for
lesbians
and one star for illustrations. Otherwise it was just predictable and forgettable. 😩 I get the appeal and it’s a good depiction of what I think a lot of us have dealt with from one of our parents but it’s been done before, and done better.

Eat 👏 the 👏 rich 👏

I picked this up on a whim and I was almost put off by some of the typos/grammatical errors but I’m glad I stuck it out. The chapter division was neat, and even though there were a bunch of characters they weren’t hard to keep track of. I like how everyone tied together and I appreciated the ending! It did seem a little rushed in places but it doesn’t detract much from the story. It still makes a point. This would make an amazing graphic novel tbh. I’m a little sad I didn’t think to listen to it as an audiobook but !! Someday!!

As someone unfamiliar with The Magnus Archives(?) I’m definitely inspired to check that out lol.

i picked this up because people on reddit said it changed their lives but i think that only applies if you’re not already living through one constant existential crisis. it was written well but otherwise boring. :(
