Great middle grade read! Shy 7th grader Cecil Hall moves to Boston from Florida is struggling to fit in. Everyone around him is telling him how he SHOULD be but it's not comfortable. Eventually he finds his own way to stand up for himself and makes real friends. Super sweet and loverable characters and story. Art was okay, didn't wow me. But it suits story about a cartoonist. And I think representation of timid, Black boys is an important one. Would recommend for all middle school classrooms.

Three storylines if you will: journalist on a project to follow a case of a murdered indigenous woman; a collection of stories of other murdered women; her spiritual journeys when she participates in rituals with the indigenous community.

It was a bit of a slow read. Lots of elaborate description that I found myself skimming through. But I found main lead interesting and I was invested in her journey.

Explored important issue of injustice for women in Brazil's justice system. But I think most systems around the around are similar. ๐Ÿ˜” Women die at the hands of the men closest to them far too often in our world. This book brings attention to the "simple act of killing a woman" and shows how it's not that simple at all.

Absurd, dark humor. Interesting enough but not memorable. I didn't care about characters. Took too long for David, Alma, Kyoko/Emi's connection to make sense.

Shoko is such an ASS. But looking forward to volume 2 to see what the reunion between bullied and bullier (turned bullied himself) will be like.
