Tools of a Thief by D. Hale Rambo
2.0
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC.
This book left me wanting more, but not in a good way. I didn’t like the character development (lack of), or how it ended at all. It simply wasn’t my cup of tea - and I do enjoy a good fantasy. With that being said I only gave this book 2/5 because it just left me with too many questions. I spent most of the book confused. I was glad it was a short book coming in at only 170 pages. It still took me longer to read than a novel twice as long. Oh well, onto the next book!!!

Overcoming by Ann-Marie Wilson
5.0
Wow. What a story to read on International Women’s Day. This beautiful memoir follows the life of Dr Ann-Marie Wilson on her quest to bring reform to FGM.
Dr Wilson tells a wonderfully written book stating in her youth to current day. I have yet to travel out of North America, yet Dr Wilson has traveled all over Africa and Europe.
When I picked this title I expected many more details into FGM, however, the book kept details brief while still revealing pertinent relevant information. I was pleased with how Dr Wilson handled this sensitive topic, while still educating.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would recommend it to others. I received an ARC of this book via NetGalley and courtesy of the publisher.

The Lost Apothecary by Sarah Penner

A wonderful story set in the late 1700’s and current day. How or why do they intersect? As we wander through the storylines, a beautifully written story evolves.I loved reading about Caroline, Nella and young Eliza.
Too Good to Be True by Carola Lovering
3.0
I’m still processing how to feel about this book. It’s told through 3 different perspectives, which I did enjoy. When I got into the book around page 50 or so I wanted to keep going, and then I got to part two. At this point the book is pretty much done. The twist was known, and it was easy to figure out the rest. I didn’t particularly enjoy the ending either, it felt too forced and like the bad guy won. I’d rate this probably a 3, maybe a 3.5 out of 5. Kind of disappointed it was one of my BOTM picks, I would have much preferred, and not been so annoyed, had it been a library book.
A Deadly Influence by Mike Omer
4.0
I love Amazon First Reads, even though this is the first month I’ve really participated.
I love a good psychological thriller and Mike Omers, A Deadly Influence, did not disappoint. I loved following the story of Abby and learning more about her. The character development was on point and wonderfully told. As you follow along you are taken on a fun twisty journey – all the way to the end! I’m not usually one for series but man, I am anxiously waiting the Abby Mullen #2 book!

I Put a Spell On You by Sarah Vance-Tompkins

Where to start. Yesterday I was having an all around bad day and decided to pick up my copy of “I Put a Spell On You” by Sarah Vance-Tompkins that I received via NetGalley and the publishers. Truth be told I was annoyed with the story at first. We open with a whiny, entitled 21 year old lady. I read about a third of the book and decided that maybe I just wasn’t in the right headspace for a fairy tale, so I put the book down and decided to revisit it again when I was feeling better.
I’m glad that I know myself well enough to pick the story back up this morning. I quickly devoured the story, entranced by the words and tale of Aviana Willowbrook. We learn that yes Aviana is a spoiled rich kid, but she has an evil step mother, an absent father, and apparently a mother who abandoned her. This isn’t the case though, while yes her step-mother is evil, her dad was scared and her mom never forgot or stopped wanting her. This is a true coming of age story with a dash of magic mixed in.
If you’re wanting to get caught up in a cute, light, fairy tale then please pick up this book.

The House Swap by Jo Lovett

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me the opportunity to read this book.
Overall I’d give this book 2.5 out of 5 stars. I found it very slow and lacking chemistry. The two main characters swap houses and start talking. They’re polar opposites yet we are led to believe that after 7 months of barley talking they fall in love? They barely know each other!
I kept reading thinking the story would pick up, it it doesn’t! Then James does a huge 180, it’s very unbelievable. There was hardly any romance for being called a “romance” and there was no depth. Entirely predictable and frustrating.
