Juvenile defense attorney Rhonda Bird thinks she understands teenagers until she meets her new ward – a 15-year-old half-sister she didn’t know existed. What ensues is a funny, crazy, action packed thriller with drug cartels, a group of spoiled rich teens whose midnight escapades escalate from vandalism and roughing up a few “deserving” victims to murder, and a one-time assassin for hire that is out for revenge. Rhonda and her interactions with her sister Baby are enough to keep you totally entertained, all of the action is just a plus. Can’t wait to see what troubles Rhonda and Baby attract in the future. One of McTeirnan’s best to date. You know it is great writing when you can’t wait to see what happens next even though you know what happened to Nina from the beginning. It is a great character study, a serious look at family dynamics and what one would do for their kids.  Also, a very realistic look at social media and wealth and influence and how people are easily swayed to believe what they are being fed. Nothing would change what happened to Nina, but the ending was definitely satisfying in a kind of sick way. Audio from Libro.fm

The book starts off with a bang and I was really interested in the story. However, I prefer fast action and not a lot of description so this book was not for me. It did go into lots and lots of information about dog search and rescue and altitude rescue and lots of description of terrain and gear required, etc. And, the story was definitely worth reading.

Not quite a cozy because main character is a detective but it read like a cozy. It was a quick, fast audio to listen to and I enjoyed learning about life in the small village but the killer was fairly obvious mid way through.

A police procedural, a complex plot that is revealed layer after layer and a strong, determined female detective with no people skills and who doesn’t care what others think about her because her only goal is to catch the person who brutally killed three teen-aged girls are what made this a story I couldn’t quit listening to.  DI Kim Stone’s childhood was unimaginably horrible, but she emerged from it determined to catch those who would dare to hurt others, especially children. I can’t wait for more Detective Kim Stone.

I Died on a Tuesday ended up being a total surprise. Did Robbie Manning really cause the horrible accident that left Janie severely disabled? Why is Vanessa a major part of the story and how the Judge is involved are some of the many questions you will ask yourself as this gripping story unfolds. It’s a story about decisions that are made and how they can change people’s lives forever. You will become invested in their stories, and you will ask yourself how you might have acted in their place, and you will be surprised when you see how all of the stories are connected. The book was beautifully written.  The info about all of the plants and animals was fabulous.  The story of family was intense.  Everything about the book was fabulous until the ending.  It totally ruined the book for me.  Everything up until the end seemed to all of a sudden mean nothing.  Reminded me of how I felt after reading Four Winds.

Addison is mean, snarky, and seems totally unlikeable until you meet the other characters in this twisted story of narcissism and greed. What the Wife Knew sets the bar high for domestic thrillers and you will not want to stop reading until you know all of the dirty secrets that have been hidden for years.  The search for a missing journalist who was working on a story with widespread implications for many in the small Canadian town is the background of Buried Road. But the two main protagonists are what make this book one of the best thrillers I have read. Augusta (Gus) Monet is one crazy, brave, and determined woman and her 12-year-old daughter Bly and the story’s narrator is fast becoming just like her mom. The two have spent the past 3 years trying to find out what happened to Howard, and no matter what, they do not give up. Lots of clues get dropped and eventually things begin to make sense – or so you think. Then comes twist after twist.

Billie, Helen, Mary Alice, and Natalie are back. The killers of a certain age (over 60) are a year into retirement when they discover someone is trying to kill them in repayment for an assignment they conducted for The Museum. What follows is an action-packed adventure full of intrigue, foreign travel, disguises, a live chicken, and lots of laughter amid the serious job of stopping a dangerous killer.
