“get off your high horse bitch you’re literally reading serial killer fanfic” is an actual sentence in this book and while saying i “loved” it feels like the wrong word…i devoured this. a really great interrogation of our cultural obsession with true crime and the internet cultures that have surfaced in the wake of it.

not my favorite sarah maclean but still a lot of fun! i think i didn’t love sesily as a character, and the conflict with caleb could’ve been integrated better. but im definitely interested in the other books and characters in this world and excited to read more!

alix e. harrow’s writing always makes me feel like a kid again in the best way. she can instantly make you invested in her characters, and there’s a certain whimsy to her prose that feels so timeless. this was perfect and devastating.
Hope in the Dark: Untold Histories, Wild Possibilities by Rebecca Solnit

“Hope is an ax you break down doors with in an emergency, because hope should shove you out the door, because it will take everything you have to steer that future away from endless war, from the annihilation of the earth’s treasures and the grinding down of the poor and marginal. Hope just means another world is possible, not promised, not guaranteed.”

An important and poignant read, at any moment but especially in this political moment. Two decades have passed since Solnit first published this book and yet many of the truisms, and indeed much of the political landscape being built at the time of publication is still with us today.
