The Shack by Wm. Paul Young

I am not sure a review or "stars" is appropriate for this book. Glad I read it. Nothing new, yet at the same time, causes me to reflect.

I've read this so many times...masterpiece.

I never like giving books stars, but this time I am too close to the author to even begin to contemplate doing such a thing. The book is small, but mighty. Raw honesty, broken up for all to view - making the cover of the book very apt.

Reading the ebook version off of Amazon, but could not be bothered to look up editions. Now that I've read it, I can tell you the ebook version is full of errors. I'm no editor, but I'm pretty sure back then words were never spelt with @ symbols. Terrible. Then again, it was free.

As to the story, it most certainly is a work of the time. The style makes both Dickens and Austin look sparse.

And no I'm not giving it stars. The story lives on far longer than most books, that says enough.

My feelings on this book are too complex to resort to stars.

I am an e-friend of the author, so any stars or review from me would be far too biased. But please see the Q&A I did with her on my blog to see if the book might be for you.

So sad. So powerful. Dreamlike with a narrative that swirls, echoing the mind state of the main character. Very beautiful, but requires careful reading.

I told my physio that my husband was reading this book. She said, 'Oh that is a wonderful book, you must read it when he is done.' Husband is done. So I'm reading the book.

Edited now that I've read it: Definitely time worth spent. Glad to have read it. Hope South Africans get themselves a copy too.
