I really thought this would be better. It had a snappy plot, quite gripping twists and turns, but just turned out disappointing. I seriously considered bumping it to 3 stars but I guess a 2.5 is where I'm at.

I'd give this zero stars if Goodreads allowed it. I loved Nora Roberts's vampire—sorry, vampyre—trilogy and thought this would be more of the same. But dear god. The vampires are named Wrath, Phury, Zsadist, Tohrment, Vishous and Rhage. I just can't. The plot could've been good but the writing was not my style, the actual "plot" bits were so convoluted.

Probably more like 1.5 stars. The premise was promising but the second half in particular was just quite rubbish. Too much need to wrap everything up. And I JUST CANNOT BELIEVE the Noel-Joanne angle. Yes they slept together before the case, that was believable, but her going out with him for dates (though not called that) and stuff during the investigation was so ridiculous. The book very tidily ended with a happy ending and by a murderer you literally don't care about so...not my cup of tea at all.

Two and a half stars. I enjoyed the premise and the writing but I felt the story sort of petered out in the second half.
